Hidden Gems: Meet Victor Jaramillo of SportsXplore Travel LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Jaramillo

Hi Victor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This month I am celebrating 20 years of arriving to the US. I am originally from Mexico city. I always wanted to challenge my self and pursue a dream of living in another country. I came to study academic English first at the University of Texas in Austin, and then I was accepted to Texas State University where I completed a two year Masters in Communication and Advertising program. After graduating, I started my career in advertising in San Antonio, but quickly realized that it was not going to be the path for me, plus I was communting from Austin to San Antonio every day. That was rough. Luckily a company from Mexico was moving operations to Dallas and a recruiter found me. That is how I started a 15 year career in Marketing and business strategy. Last January, I lost my job due to massive layoffs at my company. I had little time to decide what I wanted to do, and that is where I decided to start my own travel business. I found an niche opportunity in the sports travel and entertainment world and launched my services catering to people from Mexico that dreams about coming to the US to watch professional sports. I think it has a lot of potential and look forward to grow the business more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all – first of all I have been laid off before and knowing what the future holds or if every going to get another job is rough. Also, investing your severance money to launch a busienss that it may take sometime to take off is a gamble and I have questioned myself if it was the right decision. At the end of the day I try to stay positive and attract good vibes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At SportsXplore Travel, we combine the excitement of sports and shows with the joy of personalized experiences. We create unforgettable trips for sports fans and adventure seekers in the United States.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is part of life. Everyone takes risks at some point in their life. I took a risk of leaving my family in Mexico to come here. I really didn’t need to, like many other immigrants, but it was something I wanted. I took a risk to launching a business that I want to grow, putting at risk the financial future of my family as well. Regardless, I like to to take calculated risks. I strongly believe you have to evaluate many outcomes, possibilities, pros and cons, before making a decision.
