Daily Inspiration: Meet Eric Rush

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Rush

Hi Eric , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First, let me say that I feel blessed and honored to be part of the selection process for Voyage Magazine.

I do see the entirety of my life up to this point as a voyage. From the beginning, it certainly has been a life that had to be navigated through crashing waves, challenging winds, and calm seas.

I often say I was born into brokenness and at rock bottom at birth. At 19 and 20 years of age, my parents were struggling to find their own identity, become emotionally and spiritually mature, and find their career path. When two individuals are still working to find own their path and decide to have children, it’s a lot of pressure to put on themselves. The need to provide supersedes the need to parent. That pressure is often passed on to the ones who are most vulnerable, the children. In 5 short years, their tumultuous relationship ended. Because of this, I spent much of my life, and even in some parts of adulthood, feeling emotionally and spiritually malnourished and struggling with my problems, alone. It was as if I didn’t have the essential tools to make the best decisions in life without having to face the serious consequences of making bad ones.

Thinking that my enlistment and military experience would help me find myself, it did the opposite. I overcorrected when I found myself enmeshed in a war in the Middle East. The exposure to these stressors left me even more lost, angry, and disoriented. Sadly, I turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with trauma and suffered many years dealing with substance-related issues. These decisions did not come without consequence. I was divorced 3 months after returning home and financially a mess. Little did I know, I would spend the better part of the first 2 years post-deployment, coming and out of jail and eventually prison for 2 years, all of which were substance-related. I had resided to the fact that my life was over. Boy, was I wrong?

It wasn’t until 2013 on a fluke visit to the VA for a sinus infection that I found out that I had been suffering from combat-related issues. I also learned that in the years I spent in rehabilitation before this VA experience I was merely being treated for the symptom of “substance use disorder” but not the root cause, which was combat-induced. Since getting the help I needed from the VA, my life has made a 180-degree turn. I finished 2 bachelor’s degrees in 2019 and a master’s Degree in 2021.

Today, I am the CEO of Prime Pitch Podcast Network Inc., a podcast curating company, and More Digital Media Broadcast Network LLC. a multi-media and design company. I am also the host of three podcasts, The Rush Outrospective | A Mastering the Art of Living Podcast, Unfinished Business | A Podcast for Veterans Pursuing New Life Missions, and Next Level Thinkers – A Charting New Horizons of Brilliance Podcast.

I always say if you want to know what I am spiritually, and intellectually working on, the names of my podcasts will tell you all that you need to know. Each of my podcasts brings individuals from my community who are making dynamic impacts in not only their lives but for those around them. I tackle veteran-related issues, mastering the art of living & spirituality and outside-the-box thought discussions.

In my opinion, in recovery of any kind, we often spend too much time looking inward (introspection) instead of outward (outrospection), which often leads to self-deprecation and self-sabotage.

It was always my plan when creating my media companies to get myself in front of people who think, create, and visualize life better than I was at one time in my life. It was always with the hopes of recouping the skills I should have had when I was a child. Frankly, I think I have managed to leverage my media company to become a form of rehabilitation and recovery for my life.

While I would like to take all the credit for my current success, truth be told I couldn’t have done it without YOU!!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For many years, I lived in shame and guilt for experiencing the shortcomings and difficulty when returning home from combat. This can be very paralyzing. Worthiness and worthlessness were constant battles during the transformational journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For me, as the CEO of Prime Pitch Podcast Network Inc., a podcast curating company, it’s an absolute honor and privilege to engage in deep, meaningful conversations with individuals from all walks of life on the podcasts I host. Because of my lived experience, I find it easier to tap into the richness of human experience, exploring the myriad of perspectives that shape our local community and our world. Through these conversations, I uncover powerful stories of resilience, triumph, and personal growth—each offering invaluable insights into the human condition. Together, I celebrate the beauty of diversity, embracing the uniqueness of every individual and the wisdom they bring to the table. It’s in these moments of connection and understanding that we truly appreciate the transformative power of storytelling. It inspires, educates, and unites us in profoundly impactful ways.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I have learned in my journey in podcast hosting and curating is that there is a genius inside each of us dying to be recognized, valued, and appreciated. Be patient. There’s enough room at the top. My journey is living proof that it isn’t over til it’s over.
