Conversations with Anna Dolmany

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Dolmany

Hi Anna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello my name is Anna and I am 29 years old, I was born and raised in Hungary and moved to the states when I was 10.
I lived in Florida till I graduated from high school and once I graduated I joined the Marine Corps and I spent 5 amazing years in it in North Carolina. I was a Direct Air Support Coordinator while I was serving from the Marines I moved to Texas with my husband and started my academic career. I got my AA from Weatherford College and my Bachelors from Texas Christian University.

I have always loved photography and always knew that I wanted to something involving cameras however the price of the equipment can make the idea of being a photographer incredibly taunting. My husband was a massive help to me because he supported my dreams and would let me borrow his camera when I didn’t have one yet. I recently had the opportunity to get myself my dream Sony setup and I haven’t looked back since. I have done a large variety of photography topics such as couples photos, baby pictures, animals, fishing, rodeo, bullring, PGA golf tournament, MLR Rugby games, TCU Football, and concerts. I’m sure I’m forgetting something but after all the different topics I have landed and fallen in love with sports photography! I absolutely love taking photos of the action and emotions along with detail shots of the sports themselves which highlight the strengths and beauty of each sport. I am hoping that I can become one of the big names within the industry and while I know I have a long way to go I am going to work as hard as I can to achieve that goal.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a bumpy road. From learning the skills and knowledge it takes to understand how to take a good clear photo to continuously learning and bettering my skills while I’m at a sporting event I will always be learning and bettering myself. There has been countless times where I have thought that I gotten a great shot and once I check it has a couple issues whether it’s the settings or the composition of the photo. However there will always be room for improvement and bettering my skills with every single event that I am able to attend and with any new piece of equipment that I will get in the future. I feel like if I close myself off to the knowledge that I will always have room to improve that is when I’ll begin to fail.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a sports photographer. I go and take photos of professional sports teams and I enjoy focusing on the detail shots that highlight the sport. I am really proud of my close up shots that I have gotten of the MLR Dallas Jackals when they were practicing their scrum. I believe the shots really highlight the players strengths and the beauty of how interlocked they are. I think these detail shots set me apart from other sports photographers and gives me a competitive edge.

What’s next?
I am really looking forward to working with more professional sports teams and improving my skills as a photographer. I would really love to add more camera gear to my photography business and possibly start selling some of my photographs. Hopefully one day I could even receive sponsorships from some companies and become a go to professional for these companies to try out new equipment.
