Meet Tamisha Smith of Infinitee Business Solutions Global LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamisha Smith.

Tamisha Smith

Hi Tamisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 6th grade, I had the incredible opportunity to witness my parents build a brick-and-mortar restaurant business called Big Al’s BBQ from the ground up. My daddy was a handsome Louisiana man of many trades, and seeing him use his hands to develop our restaurant was nothing short of amazing. On the other hand, my momma was a beautiful business-savvy Texas woman with a natural talent for connecting with people. As long as it didn’t interfere with my schoolwork and sports, I often helped with the restaurant after school by cleaning during and after closing for extra funds added to my allowance.

After five years of directly running their business, my parents decided to lease the building to potential business owners. While my dad continued to work for General Motors where he later retired, I watched them together but mostly my momma met with several interested parties. Eventually, they found suitable renters. They provided a month-to-month lease agreement to the interested renters and after six months of good faith renters, my parents continued to seal a one-year lease with renters. I remember watching my momma write a lease agreement and I asked if I could read it. As I reviewed the document, I noticed a few small errors, and from that moment on, my momma started asking me to review all the contracts.

Growing up, we couldn’t access the myriad of entrepreneurs, millionaires, celebrities, and business owners that social media provides today. But we did have sitcoms like Martin. I was particularly fascinated with Gina’s corporate role as the VP of Marketing. I admired her business attire, confidence in providing presentations with graphs and numbers, and how she commanded the boardroom. While I still aspired to be like my parents, working in corporate America like Gina was more enjoyable.

As reality replaces sitcoms, I was a 19-year-old college student looking for another job, and a friend told me about staffing agencies. She had been hired through one and was starting work the next day. I decided to check it out and was immediately hired by an aviation company as a receptionist through the agency. The agency paid us weekly, which was fantastic for me as a college student needing quick funds.

After two years of working for a staffing agency, I transitioned to a permanent job in the government sector. I spent over 20 years at almost every level in human resources before retiring from the executive leadership team. With the knowledge I had acquired, my innovative ideas, and my bachelor of business management degree with an emphasis in marketing, I was ready to pursue my dream of establishing my consulting firm.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business, we’ve faced our share of struggles. I have independently financed my business without relying on loans, silent investors, or business grants. This self-reliance has been very empowering, however, some clients have failed to maintain financial responsibility and the competition against larger companies was challenging. My business is closely tied to the market’s pulse—when businesses are growing, my business flourishes, and when the market plunged in 2020 so did our firm.

During the pandemic —including battling COVID myself being unable to work for three months, overall it took nearly three years for my business to recover—the impact was profound. I was currently standing at a critical juncture in my journey, faced with the uncertainty of completely pivoting or making strategic adjustments. Clients were closing their doors or drastically downsizing, and about 70% of my employees were too afraid to work onsite, having lost loved ones to the virus. While we continue to make progress, we have managed to overcome 85% of the obstacles after three years. The most recent heaviest challenge was losing my Daddy in April of 2024. The weight of carrying this void is unexplainable as I push to transition this pain to purpose every day. As I continue to learn the new me, I hear my daddy say, “You can do all things through Christ that strengthens you, You got this daughter, and I am proud of all my kids.” I understand that I have inherited the responsibility to carry on the tradition. This vision is my divine calling, and I am committed to fulfilling it.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am dedicated to immersing myself in diverse podcasts, blogs, mentors, books, journals, and other resources focused on personal and business growth. My curiosity drives me to explore leadership principles, tracing back to the legendary era of Greek mythology. Even in the face of conflicting perspectives, I approach them with an open mind, seeking to understand the rationale behind the ancient mindset. However, I firmly believe that not everything is universally applicable and transcends the need for explanation. Overall, focusing on and implementing personal growth is a must.

When it comes to books, a few have elevated my business acumen and personal life such as, “Long Walk to Freedom” by Nelson Mandela, “The Power of Character in Leadership” by Dr. Myles Munroe, and “Emotional Intelligence” by Daniel Hollins. I believe that effective leadership requires continuous self-improvement and humility. Additionally, I make it a point to journal every day, and one of the most impactful books that has transformed my communication with the Divine is “Change” by Trina Allen. This daily journal has been essential in my growth, helping me to deepen my self-understanding and cultivate a more intimate relationship with God.

I would like to leave the audience with the following inspirations: 1) Surround yourself with people who are good for you, not just good to you, 2) Live for today, and 3) Take care of your body because you only get one.
