Today we’d like to introduce you to Artesha Murray
Hi Artesha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From Southern University to Launching Pretty Society: My Fashion Journey
My passion for fashion began at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, where I pursued a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Textiles, with a minor in Business. I was determined to turn my love for style into a career, and after graduation, I headed to Atlanta, GA, where my journey in the fashion industry truly began.
I vividly remember the day I interviewed for a position at H&M. I was filled with nerves and excitement, knowing this was my chance to break into the industry. To my delight, I landed the role of Visual Merchandiser, responsible for overseeing a $2 million+ store. The experience was invaluable—I gained a wealth of skills and tools that would become the foundation of my career.
From there, I went on to work with major brands like Forever 21, Victoria’s Secret, and Giorgio Armani. Each role taught me something new about the industry and allowed me to refine my craft. Eventually, I worked my way up to corporate retail, joining the team at Neiman Marcus in Dallas, TX. It was a dream come true, but the journey to Dallas was far from easy. I arrived pregnant, homeless, with just $200 to my name, but I had a dream that kept me going.
However, life threw a curveball when COVID-19 hit, leading to restructures and layoffs at Neiman Marcus, and I found myself at a crossroads. I took a job as a dance teacher for Dallas ISD, where I couldn’t help but notice the compliments I constantly received on my wardrobe. It was then that I realized what I was missing—my true passion: fashion.
Determined to follow my heart, I began drafting a plan to incorporate my LLC, and that’s when Pretty Society was born. I wanted to create a boutique that embodies femininity, softness, and a vibrant, quality luxury lifestyle for women. Whether it’s through business, travel, brunch, pampering, or fine dining, I wanted Pretty Society to be a reflection of the life every woman deserves.
Now, I’m beyond excited to announce the launch of my boutique on October 20, 2024, from 2-4 PM at Event on the Marquee in Frisco, TX. We’ll be celebrating with a fashion show and a brunch day party, and I can’t wait to share this moment with all of you.
Texas has truly shown me that it’s a place where dreams can become reality. I hope Pretty Society inspires women everywhere to embrace their strength, softness, and beauty, and to live the life they’ve always dreamed of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road was not easy. I had no idea my path would come with so many hurdlers. I was laid off in 2020 from Neiman Marcus where I dreamed of becoming a fashion buyer. I was a credit card underwriter for Neiman Marcus retail credit cards. We later transitioned under the umbrella of capital one. It was just different. I just didn’t want to work directly for the bank. I liked the glitz and glam of working for Neimans. Once I was laid off, I pursued a dance teacher role which I currently still work for in Dallas ISD.
