Rising Stars: Meet Brandon Torres Sr. of Waxahachie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Torres Sr.

Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2020, I was working as a nurse when covid hit. I ended up losing my job after I got covid myself and refused to go into work and spread the virus to my residents at the time. While in between jobs at the time, I ended up purchasing a PC and started to play with photoshop and create posters for my kids. I would do this on my phone prior. Nothing crazy, just something I have always enjoyed doing. Well, I spent countless hours watching videos on how to use photoshop and got pretty good at it to the point other parents were requesting to create a poster for their child. Before I knew it, one request turned into many. I ended up starting my business “Diamond 9 Designs” because of it. After being encouraged by my wife. I started noticing that some pictures being sent into me weren’t the best of quality. So, I started researching cameras to invest in. I ended up with my very first camera, a Canon 80D. Thats when I really got into photography, rather sports photography. I would spend hours learning the camera and reading beginner photography books. I started out shooting action shots of players playing in games and using my images and then creating a poster for the parents. One of my very first clients was the now San Diego Wave and National Team Player Jaedyn Shaw, along with Univ. of Texas leading goal scorer Trinity Byars, all here from the DFW. Pretty awesome right? Fast forward 4 years and now I’m doing more portrait and team media days than I find being on the sidelines of a field. I have met some amazing people along the way to help guide me in this field. From following other photographers, helping them with their shoots, and being a sponge and learning from them and then applying it to my craft, to people just believing in my work and hiring me to help create content for their company. I love to help people achieve their vision, to help them grow bigger than where they started. I love capturing memories for parents of their kids playing a sport their kid loves. I love kids seeing their photo and seeing something great within themselves. Helping to turn their one day into a day one. It’s what I do for my own and have made a business out of it. Helping people shine. Thats what Diamond 9 Designs stands for, making something out of nothing. Under all the layers is a diamond in us all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You learn as you go a lot of times in this field, or at least I have. From forgetting back up memory cards to not having certain equipment, lighting, etc Which equipment in itself is a hefty price. To just getting better at taking pictures and getting out of your comfort zone when working with people on a personal level. Just always pushing yourself to put out the best product, its a competitive field. But I enjoy that part. It keeps me on my toes to better myself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Sport Photography, I’m most proud of stepping out of my comfort zone and starting my own photography business, and now no longer working as a nurse. My creativity, my vision, my eye is unique to me just as any photographer out there. I was doing this for free at one point because it’s just something I have always loved to do. As a young kid in class I remember drawing for others. Just never thought I would have made a career out of something that came natural at the time.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
