Check Out Abigail Torres’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Torres

Hi Abigail , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since the age of 15, when my mom finally allowed me to put makeup on, that’s when I started to really enjoy makeup. From then on, some of my family members would ask me to do their makeup for special occasions. Never in a million years did I think I’d be able to make a business out of the passion I had for makeup. In 2020, I took a masterclass with a local Dfw makeup artist, This is when I gained the confidence to start a business and started taking clients. At the beginning, it was difficult to get my name out there. I didn’t know how or where to start. Dfw already has amazing makeup artists that are established with their own clientele which caused me to second guess this business idea many times. Starting out, I was also working as a business manager for a dental office and I had to work Saturdays which really hurt my business from the start. I believe the first two years I got a few clients but then I put it to the side and really didn’t push my business after. Thankfully, with the support of my family and friends, I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I started working with other local Hair and makeup teams that would hire me to do weddings and from there it has really blossomed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all. The first two years, I booked maybe 10 clients total on my own. I struggled with marketing and always had a battle with myself by comparing my work to someone else’s. Working a full time job always got in the way of a potential client as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist that specializes in Bridal makeup. I am known for my soft glams that enhances the beauty in all the women that book with me.
I am proud of the dedication I have put into creating this business and all the great reviews I get from all my clients.
What sets me apart is that I treat all my clients not just like clients but as my friends. I am there with open arms to hear about everything that life brings to the table.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Yes, I didn’t know this starting out and I wish I did. Don’t just network with local makeup artist or just makeup artist in general. Network with any and all vendors possible. Hairstylists and Photographers have been the most to refer me to a potential client. One particular hairstylist who also is my business partner has been my greatest blessing.

Pricing:

  • Soft glams $115
