Inspiring Conversations with Season Jacobs of waXon Fuzz Off

Today we’d like to introduce you to Season Jacobs

Hi Season, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2013 I began working for another Brazilian waxing specialty salon in Dallas, I truly enjoyed my job. I loved the work, my colleagues, and especially the clients. The pay was great initially, but over time, the long commute, long hours, and eventually even the compensation became less appealing. I realized I had hit a ceiling—the only way to earn more was by working more shifts, which meant spending even less time with my two small (at the time) children. That’s when it became clear that I was missing out on watching them grow up.

The turning point came in 2015 when I was forced to drive on icy roads to get to work. I even had to stay in a hotel when the city shut down, operating the salon by myself with no receptionist. That experience really made me reevaluate my priorities. I shared my thoughts with my husband about starting my own business closer to home. Though he wasn’t immediately on board, I was determined, so I rented a room in a salon and went to work building a strong loyal clientelle. I had a goal to open a storefront and build a Dream Team so we could service many clients. I ended up working in Cedar Hill for five years and eventually opened my own storefront in Red Oak in 2020.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the journey has been fairly smooth, but there have certainly been challenges. One major hurdle was opening my storefront in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Having to close my doors for six weeks due to unforeseen circumstances was a scary and uncertain time, especially since no one knew how long the closures would last. Another challenge has been the constant cycle of training employees only to have them leave, which created instability. Additionally, not securing funding to expand has also been a significant obstacle, limiting growth at times when I was ready to take the next step. I have learned to “fail forward” to either win or learn, take the bumps in the road as they come and grow-you cant get rainbows without rain.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about waXon Fuzz Off?
Although we are a full body waxing salon, our expertise lies in Brazilian waxing. What sets us apart is our primary use of soft wax, which is less common in the industry. We also offer our own exclusive skincare line including a fragrance free mango butter based sugar scrub and an aloe based serum used to moisturize the skin, as well as prevent and treat ingrown hair or “hair bumps”. Additionally, new team members often introduce fresh services like facials, teeth whitening, and lash and brow lifts and tints. We take great pride in delivering exceptional work and outstanding customer service, we truly value our clients. We’ve earned a 5-star reputation for our dedication and excellence.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be part of the beauty industry, though I never imagined I would end up specializing in Brazilian waxing!!! I remember in middle school I bought a book to learn how to braid and I would practice on my two younger sisters and my mother. I went straight to beauty college right out of high school graduating 1st in my class. Directly upon graduation I worked at a salon offering hair, skin, and nail services. I was always drawn to creative and hands-on work, with a passion for helping people feel confident and look and feel their best. I feel satisified when a client leaves me feeling better than when they came in.
