Rising Stars: Meet Cody Hillman of Lower Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Hillman

Hi Cody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started tattooing in 2014 in Shreveport Louisiana. I apprenticed at a shop called red handed tattoo. My good friend Joseph Pineda helped me learn how to tattoo and helped me pay for my first tattoo machines. After red handed I worked at a shop called immovable with a bunch of my good friends. Eventually in 2019 I started working at death or glory tattoo in Dallas Texas thanks to my good buddy Cole Davis.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I definitely feel like I struggled a lot in the beginning, like most people. It was a very slow start for me, but I had some really awesome people help me out and I’m very thankful for that. Could have been worse!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love classic tattoo designs . I hand paint all my flash and have put a lot of effort into making a big painting portfolio. I specialize in traditional I’m known for doing simple colorful tattoos. I’m really proud of the fact that my clients can point out a tattoo I did just by looking at it. That makes me feel good.
