KAYLA, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Kayla Warren, and I am the CEO of ResumesbyK, which I co-founded in 2021. My mission is to assist clients around the globe in achieving their career aspirations. To support this, I offer a range of services, including exceptional resume building, job leads to help clients find their dream positions, interview preparation tips, and career mentoring to guide them in the right direction.
I launched this business a few years after graduating from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. I vividly remember the challenges of being a recent graduate trying to secure a career. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I was determined to find a fulfilling job. I attended numerous job fairs and applied to hundreds of positions, often without success. Everything changed when a woman now my mentor reached out regarding a job I had applied for at her organization. She helped me improve my resume and explained how to enhance it effectively. Ultimately, she offered me a two-month contract position in Human Resources, with the possibility of extension based on my performance. I quickly fell in love with the role, which involved reviewing resumes and overseeing the hiring process. My contract was extended due to my strong work ethic, but I realized that my initial resume had hindered my job search.
Now, five years later, I work in Human Resources at one of the largest companies in the world, Google. This opportunity arose because I had a standout resume and strong interview skills.
Throughout my journey, I’ve become passionate about helping others, as I’ve witnessed countless individuals face job rejections due to something as fundamental as their resumes. In today’s competitive job market, finding a job can be incredibly challenging. However, I am proud to say that I have successfully assisted over 300 clients in landing their dream jobs across various industries, including IT, technology, insurance, healthcare, and engineering. I am thrilled that ResumesbyK has positively impacted so many lives and transformed financial situations through my career and resume services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has certainly been worthwhile. Since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, the job market has taken a significant hit and has become more competitive. Many clients come to me expressing frustration about being laid off for an extended period and struggling to secure positions for which they are highly qualified. Additionally, the timeline for landing jobs has lengthened due to a shortage of recruiters and organizational changes within companies. However, I am dedicated to setting my clients up for success by providing them with tailored resumes and job leads to help them find the opportunities they’ve been seeking.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I envision ResumesbyK evolving into its own employment agency. My goal is to establish a staffing agency that connects various organizations with clients seeking employment through my services. I’ve seen many individuals struggle with knowing where to begin their job search, and I believe an employment agency could provide significant support across the metroplex.
I plan to expand as a business owner by organizing career fairs throughout the DFW area, giving people more opportunities to secure employment. Each year, I aim to grow my business while continuing to deliver exceptional services to my clients.
