Hi Kevin , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Kevin Lara otherwise known as “Shots By Kev” and im a promo/function photographer. I started in North Side Fort Worth by taking my camera to kickbacks, functions and events. Over time I started getting asked if I offered services for events, and slowly but surely I started getting recognition on social media and started my brand. 2 years later I’m shooting for artist like “JOP” from Fuerza Regida, rapper Big X Tha Plug and Lil Ronnie. But also shooting videos and content for the hottest events in DFW, and currently signed to Vida Nocturna Productions where I do all there marketing including social media. Starting my brand “Shots By Kev” really opened doors for me and made me invest and educate myself on my craft which is photography and marketing. Getting to showcase popular personalities, events and locations through my eyes and creativity has truly been a blessing. Step by step I’ve elevated in my business and have done many investments to open more doors for me in networking and opportunities. Everyone has there stories and experiences and mine have definitely not been easy but trough my community and my people, I’ve made and continue to leave my foot print for my city. I continue to stay humble and recognize those who have supported me in any way and will continue to progress in my work and brand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout starting my business, I’ve experienced and learned about the people you work with. In the entertainment industry everyone is for themselves, everyone wants the same thing you do and that’s the winning ticket! Working for over hundreds of promoters, locations and events. You start seeing who is really there to support you, guide and want to see you win. I’ve made plenty of mistakes trusting the wrong people and working for those who don’t value your work. Throughout my journey I’ve had my ups and downs, but everyday I remember this is my path and continuing to do what I’ve been doing just progressing as I go is what’s gonna get me where I want to be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer promo videos and photography to clubs, events, promoters and the hottest entertainment functions. With that comes celebrities, opportunities and recognition. I’m mainly known for my viral recap videos I offer for events and clubs. Although I’ve shot for many influencers and events I still offer regularly photo shoots for graduation, birthdays and personal needs. My proudest moment is when I registered my brand name and really made it official, after that came going to different cities working with the biggest promoters and getting opportunities to shoot for artist and celebrities.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Trough social media and networking comes inspiration and I definitely get inspired and driven seeing others putting there brands out there. Through apps like Tik Tok and Instagram I try to save tricks and tips on how to work with algorithms and marketing using social media. Listening to podcast has also been another view on influential entrepreneurs and the behind the scenes of there experiences.
