Meet Lea Genders of Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Genders

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I gained thirty pounds around the time I turned thirty years old (twenty years ago. It was the best thing that ever happened to me because without the weight gain I would have never had the motivation to learn about how to get healthy. I started running to change my body but it changed my whole life.
Now I am a personal trainer, running coach, and health coach helping people get strong, body and mind—and none of this would have happened without that first thirty pounds.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The learning process was a struggle. Like many, I was confused about the right way to get fit and healthy. I was confused about the mixed messages regarding diets in the media. I did everything wrong a few times before I finally got it right.

I started running too much and eating too little to lose the weight and it proved unsustainable. I went on a rollercoaster ride of up and down weight for years before I figured out what works best for me.

Now I help people think through their options, consider their lifestyle, interests, obstacles and abilities to come up a plan together that will work for them so they don’t have to make all the trial and error mistakes that I did.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a personal trainer that helps people get strong body and mind. When we shift the focus away from pure weight loss and focus on strength and lifestyle habits, the experience is enjoyable and sustainable.

I often work with runners who want to improve performance and get stronger.

Lifting weights is a game changer for all women, we build muscles and confidence that spills into all areas of their lives.

Strength training is for everyone and can improve the quality of life of men and women, young and old alike.

How do you think about happiness?
When my clients say “I never thought I could do that,” or they tell me about their wins because they are stronger. When my over-60 year old clients tell me they didn’t need help putting their bag in the overhead bin on the airplane and refused help from the young bagger at the grocery store to carry the dog food bag out to the car. Or their doctor’s tell them they can tell they’ve been working out with weights. All of this brings great joy because it’s not only about how you look in the mirror but how your day to day life improves.
