Daily Inspiration: Meet Demetrius Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrius Thomas

Hi Demetrius, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Chicago
I’m a triplet
Went to Alcorn state university in Lorman,MS
I started making and selling my own clothes because I always liked to stand out. I never wanted to wear what other people were wearing so I decided to make my own clothing line. I’ve overcome a lot of situations and depression , friends being killed , and missed opportunities so I thought my clothing line/brand should reflect how I’ve been able to bounce back. That’s why it’s called (NLB) Neverlook back. The original logo is a pillar of salt. It is used to symbolize how in the Bible , Lot’s wife turned into a pillar of salt as they were leaving the cities God was destroying because of their sinful acts and nature . She turned into salt because she disobeyed God: that’s one of the best examples of what will have to you if you linger in the past and refuse to chase new dreams , and opportunities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road completely. Some days or months are better than others. The things that make it tough for now is the fact that sometimes you have to find the business and make new clothes and hat designs with your own money.
But it has to be done to get pictures and be able to put new things on the website:
Also paying for the cards and the website and finding people who care about it as much as me AND are willing to help promote for free
Has been a challenge at times as well. I just take it one day at a time and do what feels right and give clothes away to whoever feels right. I also have to remember to promote clothes on a daily basis which is sometimes challenging because I’m dealing with life everyday. I used to be worried about support from friends but not so much anymore.
The people who have made the most impact has been family a few GREAT friends and mostly strangers.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in training kids in basketball skills since I am a professional player and looking to go overseas in the near future
I also have coached a few basketball teams
I have a training business called future stars where I train young kids and teenagers in basketball skills

I make music and go by the name iHM

I’m also a barber

Who else deserves credit in your story?
