Check Out Melissa Corpuz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Corpuz

Melissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As an art student, I have a long history of loving design. Joe was always into building as a pastime. When we met I was a single mom with little money and we wanted to buy a home. We were looking at homes and we found one in need of a considerable amount of work. We worked on every single inch of that home both inside and out. We had lots of fun and grew closer together through the renovation, it was our first home as a married couple. When we sold it, we were able to pay off some debt and even had enough left to start our next renovation. It was a dream scenario and it changed our lives. We are both very service minded, so we figured we would put our experiences to work helping others. We started our company a few short years later. Now, we stage homes for sale, and design interior spaces for some truly amazing clients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our business has been a wonderful experience thus far. Everything worth doing comes with challenges to overcome. For us, learning how to run a business was a hurdle we had not planned on, but with some advice from others and hiring the appropriate kinds of help we figured it out pretty quickly. Learning to communicate with clients and transfer their dreams into reality is always challenging, but it’s also the most rewarding part. Now, our biggest challenge is identifying our own design style. We design for clients in the style they choose, but on projects where others look to us for more guidance, we are happy to have something more representative of our personal style to share with them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The most frequently asked question we get is: “what size projects do we handle?”. We do large and small projects; we can furnish a room or design a kitchen. We do not do the actual construction, but we work with licensed contractors to make it perfect for you. We also work with realtors to help make homes shine on their listings. We can advise on minor updates and furnish the home complete with art and accessories that fit the style of the home. What some people might not know about us is how diverse our skill sets are. We have a team of 5 members. Two specialize in design only, two are classically trained visual artists, and one has a background in photography. We chose the name of our company to highlight the various ways we can bring art into your home. All of us are very creative. We do all of our 3D renderings in house too, so changes are quick and easy. We can even edit the model in person and let you walk the concept visually. For staging, we use original art as often as possible. We want our spaces to look original and as creative as we are. We are also very kind and loving. We take care of our clients like family, and we remain close to many of them to this day.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
We have learned to be fluid and flexible. Ultimately, the spaces we design belong to our clients, we are tasked to make sure they are happy. We sometimes have to concede to choices we don’t love, but it isn’t about us. It does take humility to design for someone else, but we are pleased to be trusted with that task and we take that responsibility seriously.
