We grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, a city known for its unique dark-style fried rice—a local favorite that’s rich, savory, and packed with flavor. They spent years savoring the taste, but when they moved to Texas, something was missing. No matter where they looked, they couldn’t find anything that quite matched the fried rice from back home.
Determined to bring that familiar taste to their new community, Cydney and Christian began recreating the beloved dish, perfecting the flavors that reminded them of St. Louis. Now, they’ve brought that hometown favorite to Texas, sharing their love for St. Louis-style fried rice with new neighbors, offering a taste of home wherever they go.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As word spread, something unexpected happened. St. Louis natives living in Texas came to try their fried rice, and the critiques rolled in. “It’s good, but not quite like home,” some would say. Others mentioned that the flavor was close, but just a bit off. They wanted to give people an authentic taste of St. Louis, but they quickly realized that it wasn’t as easy as they had hoped.Instead of giving up, they went back to the drawing board. They spent countless nights testing new ingredients, adjusting the seasoning, and recreating that signature St. Louis flavor. They consulted with friends and family back home, taking every piece of feedback to heart. Slowly but surely, they refined their recipe, bringing it closer to the iconic taste of the fried rice they grew up on. After hard work and persistence, they finally got it just right. Their dark-style fried rice now captured the true essence of St. Louis, satisfying even the most critical hometown natives.

Starting with just a simple tent setup at local events, they began serving their beloved fried rice, blending their hometown’s style with Texas flair. To their surprise, word spread fast. The flavors were a hit, and within a year, their small tent setup transformed into a full-fledged food truck, allowing them to expand their menu and reach more customers. What began as a way to satisfy their own cravings quickly became a booming business, and they continue to grow, sharing a piece of St. Louis with their new Texas home.
