Rising Stars: Meet Matt Green of Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Green

Hi Matt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about music specifically getting to create it. My cousin Jason gave me my first guitar when I was a kid and introduced me to my favorite artist Dave Matthews Band. For as long as I can remember I have always been passionate about following Jesus and connecting with people on multiple levels in real and authentic ways. For me, music seemed to be the avenue in which I was able to do that effectively.

For 13 years, I worked in multiple churches leading worship, writing music and doing other various things through music. In 2020 I found myself no longer doing that. It was a strange time for me as I still had the same desires to connect, but feeling drawn to do it in a different setting. I started playing in bars and different music venues and what I discovered is that connecting with people in those settings was more authentic, raw and real than I could ever have imagined. I fell in love with it. People seemed to let their guard down and truly be who they are which presented an incredible opportunity to connect with people on a deeper level than I could have imagined.

I love playing music, I love playing music for people, I love providing an experience and a connection that transcends what we can see and touch, but goes deeper into the core of our existence. I have been very fortunate to meet some incredible people, and I look forward to the people I will continue to meet. ✌🏼❤️🤘🏼

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge I have and still face is getting out of my own way. I believe one of the masters of the trade is learning how to let go of expectations while also maintaining your drive and passion.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer songwriter/musician and play in multiple bands as well as write and perform my own music. I am available for bookings in any venue or party. I also have been working at getting my plumbing license for almost the last four years so I guess you could say I’m the singing plumber. I love both of these things and everything I do I try and treat people with honor and respect as if they were my own family… And I love my family so that’s a good thing 😉

For me when I play music, I really try and focus on the connection and the experience with everyone that’s in the room which makes every time unique and enjoyable, even if you’re playing the same songs because we are all different and there’s always a unique experience to be had.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
If COVID-19 has taught me one thing it’s that we need Art more than ever. I heard someone say that by the time you realize you need Art it’s too late. I know I use the word connection a lot, but there’s something that connects with us in art whether it be music, painting, etc. whatever it is it awakens something deeper within us and helps us easily access the parts of our self that are so hard to access.
