Conversations with Danny Rad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Rad

Hi Danny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started getting into music when I was about 7 years old. My first instrument was the drums, and I have a brother who plays the guitar. We both caught the music bug while watching the movies “La Bamba” , “Pure Country” , and the “Selena” movie at a young age. I think we loved those movies because there was always a dynamic between 2 brothers or it was family related and we felt like we connected to them. So fast forward a little bit, my parents bought me a drum set and my brother a guitar. We would jam out in the garage for hours a day, during summer, we would be in there sweating and getting bit by mosquitos. During the winter, we would be bundled up in clothes for hours, but nothing stopped us from doing what we love to do. Eventually we started playing at our church, that’s what basically molded our skill playing, stage presence, and live performance. Again, fast forward a few years, my brother starts to write his own music and I become his drummer , in addition to that, knowing how to play more than 1 instrument, I automatically fall into producing his music, started DJing and produce songs for other artists as well. Doing what I love to do, alongside with my brother, we have reached so many levels, hit so many stages, touched so many hearts of people through our music, that we didn’t think was ever possible. My dream is to be able to make a living doing what I love to do, ever since I was 7 years old. Making that little version of me proud to be where I’m at today. I’m not where I want to be but I for sure am not where I was. It’s not a race, it’s a marathon and the marathon continues.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles that I deal with in this journey, even till this day, is balancing between work/ regular life and music. Although I want to make music my full time job, unfortunately as I’m working towards that dream, I have to work a regular job to take care of bills, rent, while also investing into the music such as putting money into music videos, studio sessions, studio engineers, drum equipment, DJ equipment, etc. Making trips to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and other cities to perform at these live shows with my brother is also an obstacle. But I know that it’s just a temporary obstacle/ struggle for now but I’m willing to go through anything, cause I know it’s all part of the journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To view my work or music that I have produced, people can go to my Instagram page, hit the link in my bio, it’ll direct you to my Spotify, Apple, Twitter, YouTube. I have a lot of songs written by my brother, produced by me. We also have songs featuring Xbvalentine, Krystal Poppin, Da’Mont, Renizanze and more. I think I’m known for being both a drummer and producer and I think it’s rare that people see the ‘brother duo’ one being an artist and the other being the producer/ drummer, when we’re together it’s a different kind of energy in every way, in our live performances and when we’re interacting in general. Which is what also sets us apart from the average artists. What i’m most proud of, is that I’m in this journey alone, I have my own blood brother in this similar journey and we both go hand in hand.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that surprises most people is that I know how to play different instruments. My main instrument is the drums, but I also play the guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, and I was a first chair Cello player in Middle School and High School.
