Hi Bailey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in dog grooming began at PetSmart in Wichita, Kansas, where I started as a bather. Through dedication and hard work, I advanced to the role of groomer by 2020. I discovered my passion for dog grooming, which seamlessly blends creativity and artistry, allowing me to express myself while caring for animals.
In pursuit of new opportunities, I relocated to North Carolina. However, I soon realized that the distance from my family and the overall environment were not the right fit for me.
I made the decision to move closer to home, settling in Mansfield, Texas. This choice proved to be transformative for both my personal life and my business. I returned to PetSmart to refine my skills and strategize the launch of my own grooming business from the ground up.
In Texas, I embraced the local culture and opportunities, leading to the establishment of my mobile grooming business, PicturePawfect. Our commitment to excellence has allowed us to positively impact the community, including collaborations with local animal shelters and presentations at schools.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed; PicturePawfect has been nominated for the Best New Business Award by the community. Additionally, we had the incredible opportunity to appear on the local news program, Hello Mansfield, in front of a live audience.
Our customers enjoy top-notch grooming services from our state-of-the-art mobile grooming van, a Dyna Groom from Wagntails—my personal dream vehicle.
Throughout this journey, my love for dogs has remained unwavering. I am grateful for the unwavering support from my family, who have been instrumental to my success.
In summary, my mobile grooming journey has been a fulfilling blend of passion, creativity, and community engagement, and I look forward to continuing this rewarding path in Texas.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can say it hasn’t been exactly smooth. Many ups and downs. The challenges faced by new entrepreneurs are unique to each individual for sure; however, I have found that one of the most significant struggles is achieving a healthy work-life balance. As a young entrepreneur, I am often required to wear multiple hats. My responsibilities are a wide range of roles, including receptionist, cleaner, social media manager, appointment scheduler, groomer, driver, accountant, and manager—all while fulfilling my duties as an employee to my own business.
In this multifaceted environment, the absence of a support system can be daunting. I’m very grateful for mine but not everyone is gifted that. I’ve heard you have to be a little insane to run your own business. The success of the business is fundamentally completely dependent on my decisions and efforts. It is easy to become captivated by the potential, driven by determination and passion. However, this enthusiasm can sometimes lead to a feeling of being overwhelmed, as if the business is controlling me rather than the other way around.
To navigate these challenges, in my opinion it is crucial to maintain a strong sense of ownership and assertiveness in managing the business. I must remind myself that I am in control, guiding the direction of the enterprise while balancing the various demands placed on me. This mindset is essential for not only sustaining the business but also for ensuring my personal well-being as an entrepreneur. Your mental health should always come first.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has undeniably influenced my journey as a business owner, manifesting in both fortunate and challenging circumstances. I consider myself fortunate to have found my dream home and to have crossed paths with remarkable individuals, such as my mentor, Patsy Brooks, who has been instrumental in my development as a groomer and entrepreneur.
Interestingly, some of my “bad luck” turned out to be beneficial. For instance, my experience in North Carolina taught me valuable lessons about adaptability and my beginning move to Texas prompted me to find a mobile grooming van on short notice. Initially, I was grooming from home, only to discover that this was not permitted, leaving me without a job.
Ultimately, my success has been driven more by resilience and determination than by luck alone. While there were moments where luck played a role, I attribute my achievements to my unwavering commitment and the support system around me. Throughout my journey, I faced skepticism from others who doubted my capabilities—being told that I was “not a business owner,” “not a groomer,” and would “not succeed,” with suggestions to be more “realistic.”
Despite these challenges, I chose to reject negativity and remain focused on my vision. My advice is to not rely solely on luck, whether it manifests or not, but to invest in yourself and your resilience.
