Community Highlights: Meet Rachel Cardenas of What’s Up, Dallas! Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Cardenas

Hi Rachel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
What’s Up, Dallas! Magazine planted it’s in September 2022 on the foundation that every business, talent, or organization has a reason why they do what they do. Basically, a story behind their journey and I wanted to be that magazine that helped tell that story. Two years later, What’s Up, Dallas! is still doing just that! By going to community events, City events, fundraisers, and interviewing these people we are connecting dots in the DFW metroplex. All of our content in on our website: www.whatsupdallasmagazine.com and we invite you all to check it out and support these inspiring stories!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, the road to where the magazine is today has been challenging one. I have had to navigate through those that are truly embracing the path like I am for good, and those who are in for “association or clout”. We have seen a few business navigate in our direction for PR needs, connections, and social status. Thankfully, we also have about 1k dedicated followers that have encouraged us to continue regardless of that happening. Every business needs a cheer squad and I have some of the best that help me pursue my purpose with What’s Up, Dallas! Magazine.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about What’s Up, Dallas! Magazine?
What’s Up, Dallas! Magazine is my main business that has helped connect all the rest together. I specialize in interviews, press releases, Editorials, Educational articles, community outreach, and supporting organizations at their events. With the vision that “everyone has a story to tell.” What’s Up, Dallas! helps them tell it to the masses.

Through meeting several businesses in the Fashion industry I also began Raejay.83official, LLC my professional modeling/ acting page. This business is focused on helping businesses create content for their brand or clothing line with help of a model. “It like telling a story or vision through still photography; acting without movement.”

Also, I partnered with Gary Dillingham of Hawk Ridge Photography to create The Hawk Ridge Agency. This agency is representing models of all types and professionally representing them in the Modeling World. This has always been needed in the industry, because some agencies misrepresent their talents and lead them to false hope. The Hawk Ridge Agency is going to represent all models and change the game!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned a lot during the Covid Pandemic! First, that big businesses thrive on small businesses and commerce. Small businesses kept the world a float while some big businesses couldn’t. Secondly, that not all jobs have to be done in the office. The Remote job role has taken off since covid happened. Third, that people are more resilient to change than they they though! We made history and changes in the business industry. Small businesses boomed, People realized their full potential in their talents and made money with their crafts. Lastly, I learned that I am capable of changing lives by being an inspiration to others!
