Community Highlights: Meet Joseph Troskie of Joseph Troskie Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Troskie

Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved design and construction, even as a child. I wanted to be an architect and studied fine art and sculpture, which still informs my design work. My brain thinks in terms of structure and shapes and how they impact emotion and experience. I started my design company in 2010 after years of casually designing for friends and my company has really evolved over the past 14 years. I started as designing only, but quickly grew and moved into the GC/Builder role. I then formed a design/build company in 2013 and would go on to design and build new homes for clients and investors. Covid hit and we faced many challenges on the construction side, and I made the decision to focus only on design. We now work alongside builders and contractors and clients to design their projects, and I love it! I’m grateful for the decade of experience I had working as a builder, but I thrive in the designer role much more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While most of the time I have been super blessed, some struggles always come with a running a business and navigating life as an Entrepeneur through the pandemic was a game-changer. Like many other people, Covid recalibrated my relationship with my career and refined my values. Today, I feel like I’m right where I should be: working as an interior and architectural designer, creating homes. It’s what I love to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in designing custom homes and interiors. I design from an intuitive and timeless place and listen to what the space wants. While my work is rooted in classical principles and proportions, my focus is on supporting the client and delivering a result that lives just as well as it looks. I think my experience as a builder informs our projects in ways that are really valuable to the client. I also love to bring solutions to our clients that they may never have thought of. At the end of the day, we are there to support and elevate the project in ways they cannot.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always moving the furniture around and drawing floor plans. I don’t think my mom loved me moving the furniture all the time! I also loved the piano and taught myself how to play starting at age 5. I worked in music production for about 15 years before starting my design company, so music is a big part of my life and personality.
