Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started with a group of women who fiercely supported and believed in me. I launched my mobile spray tanning business with a vision: to promote body positivity through my work. I focused not only on perfecting my technique but also on fostering a welcoming environment where clients could feel safe and celebrated. Each appointment became a chance to empower individuals, regardless of their body type, to embrace their uniqueness.
As I traveled from one client to another, I embraced the beauty of diversity. I encountered people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, each with their own stories and insecurities. Listening to their journeys deepened my commitment to body positivity. I learned that a tan could do more than enhance appearance; it could instill confidence and encourage self-love.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first obstacle I faced was time management. I have a full time job/career as a 911 Dispatcher so shifts are demanding, requiring me to be alert and focused for long hours. I started by dedicating my days off to research and planning. I utilized my downtime to study the tanning industry, learn about products. I reached out to experienced professionals, attended workshops, and soaked up as much knowledge as I could.
Financial constraints were another hurdle. The initial investment for equipment and supplies was daunting, I set a budget and I even asked for help from my friends! They all were excited to pitch in and start this venture with me. Additionally, I started small, offering spray tans to friends and family to build my portfolio and gain testimonials. This helped me hone my skills while generating some initial income.
Balancing my dispatching job with my new venture was challenging. I had to be creative with my schedule. I started booking appointments on all my days off, which required careful planning to ensure I was well-rested and energized for both roles. Communication was key; I made sure my clients understood my availability.
As my mobile spray tan business grows, I’m finding the confidence to take bigger risks. I’m invested in marketing and expanding my services, attracting a wider clientele. The skills I developed as a dispatcher—like multitasking and crisis management—serves me well in running my business.
Navigating these obstacles taught me resilience and adaptability. My experience as a 911 dispatcher equipped me with the tools to manage stress and think on my feet, which has proven invaluable in the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Just being outside with my siblings playing in the dirt, getting “lost” in the woods in East Tx, riding bikes without a care in the world
