Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Archidiacono-jeanis
Hi Adrienne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in New England, with my parents and siblings. I attended college, graduate school and dental school not far from the town I grew up in. I always knew I wanted to work with children although the path to a career in dentistry had not yet been forged. During my Medical Sciences master’s program at Boston University it became more clear I would choose the road to dentistry rather than medicine. During my four year journey at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, I was fortunate to be placed into my externship weeks with a very special pediatric dentist, a leader in the field, whom in a short period of time became my mentor and dear friend whom I still remain close to today. I completed my pediatric residency and Masters in Dental Science at UT Houston Health Science Center.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Pursuing your dreams, typically is not a smooth road for most of us I would say! There were many challenges and obstacles along the way. Starting my residency in another state, far from my family and everything I knew was first the biggest challenge. Texas was immensely different from what I was used to, yet in time my community grew and I started to feel comfortable and happy with my environment. I spent the first years of my career working for one of the best pediatric dentists in north Houston, where I learned so much about running a practice and patient care in a real life setting. I was able to experience working with friends and colleagues in different communities enabling me to learn and hone new skills.
As you know, we’re big fans of Aledo Pediatric Dentistry . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
All of my experiences with working as an employee granted me the knowledge base and confidence to build my own practice. My office is intentionally designed with soothing colors and textures. I personally designed every aspect of my practice, it offers a calming yet fun environment for children and their families.
The practice is designed to reduce stress and anxiety for both children and their parents. Soft colors, child-friendly decor, and a welcoming atmosphere sets the tone for a positive dental experience. I wanted to create a holistic approach that extends beyond the aesthetics of the environment, my personal
background as a registered yoga teacher plays a significant role in creating a fun and calming atmosphere. Meditation techniques are subtly integrated into the practice, helping children relax and feel at ease during their visits.
My mentorship with Dr. Steven Perlman prepared me with a method of treatment that works for our most sensitive patients through his teaching and advocacy to the treatment of children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. It is so important to offer accessibility and understanding when it comes to treating our friends with special needs, whether those needs are physical or intellectual, everyone deserves to be treated in a soothing environment where they feel safe and respected. We do whatever it takes to provide that level of care for everyone.
This unique approach not only makes dental visits more enjoyable but also fosters a sense of well-being among our young patients. Keeping the well-being of our team and patients our priority it’s important to establish a dye-free and top allergen-free office. We are all exposed to chemicals in our environment, therefore it is important to be aware of what we are working around on a daily basis. And that includes those elements I bring into the office to care for our young patients. The newest and safest possible products are carefully chosen to optimize patients oral health. Understanding the importance of the impact of diet on oral health, I advocates for reducing ultra processed foods, which I believe is causing a rise in oral health issues and subsequent health complications. By speaking to parents and children about the impact of diet on dental health, I aim to address the root causes of many dental issues and focus on prevention as much as possible.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Putting myself in many different environments and communities in my field created a well rounded view of patients needs and enabled me to reflect on the differences that occur in different communities. Through that I learned from each dentist I worked with in a student mentorship role. I think seeking out all the parameters in your field helps you grow as a clinician!
