Hidden Gems: Meet Hanna Karakulka of Junk Expert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanna Karakulka

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! I’m Hanna—a face behind the Home Hanna Home brand and a local DFW junk removal company – Junk Expert!
I grew up helping my parents with reno projects around the house. It felt like we always had something happening, after we were done with one room we’d start making over another one, and by the time we finished all of them, the cycle of projects would begin again. I loved hanging wallpaper with my mom and repainting our windows and floors.

Years later after I moved to the USA, got married, and started a family of my own, I decided to make our house feel more like home. I started small, but one thing led to another, and over the years my skillset grew, my vision expanded and my projects became more complex.

I enjoy creating with my own two hands: be that a cute artwork that I did together with my daughters, a refinished dining table where we share our best family moments, or a cozy fireplace built from scratch, – DIY makes me happy!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new project is exciting, but living through big transformations can be challenging. Sometimes it’s hard to calculate how long the project would take and it usually takes longer than expected because life happens.
A few years back I decided to renovate our kitchen and what seemed like a 2 week job during the planning phase turned into almost 4 months! So now I have more realistic expectations when I start something new.
When we started renovating our house as a young married couple our life was different, now as a family of 4 we have to account for school, business, activities, and simply family time together, which can be tricky to coordinate, but we do our best to get it all done.
Some projects we’ve done had us questioning our decision to DIY, but it’s all worth it in the end.
It’s okay to make a mistake and then feel defeated when you try something new, but it’s important to remember that Everything Is Figureoutable!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Junk Expert is a small family business. We are husband and wife team with a passion for helping people live a less cluttered life.

A few years back when I was pregnant with my youngest I had to hit pause on my DIY projects, but I still wanted to do something, so I decided to try flipping abandoned storage units. I was shocked by the amount of things that people accumulate, pay to store, and do not use. Seeing all that sparked an idea that later transformed into a junk removal business.

At Junk Expert we love helping people get their spaces and their lives back. Once the clutter is removed you can breathe more easily, since it wasn’t only taking up your physical space, but also your mental one.

We take pride in what we do. We strive to provide the best service possible to our customers in DFW area, and we also try to save as many things as we can from going to the landfill by donating, repurposing, and reusing the functional items. Yes, it requires more work on our part, but it’s important to us what world we are going to leave for our children.

Even though Junk Expert is a small family owned junk removal company, we offer a wide variety of services in residential and commercial junk removal in Dallas and surrounding areas.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk is a part of life. I’d say it’s one of the major components of any journey.

Over a decade ago I left everything and everyone I knew to start a new life in the USA. A few years later my husband and I packed and moved to Texas from up north and started our new chapter here in Dallas from scratch. We opened several businesses over the years and tried different careers. Just recently we started a new venture because we knew we needed a big change and we had to make it happen.

I believe that we are always taking a risk whether we do things or not since we can’t predict the final outcome of our actions or inaction, so I’d rather give it a try and believe that I can figure it out!
