Hi Christy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for project management, even though I started my career in business administration, eventually, I successfully transitioned into owning and running a thriving wedding and event planning company. After 15 years in that field, I felt it was time for something fresh and new. I was drawn to the idea of building homes that could become the foundation for new families and marriages. That’s how Fresh Soil was born
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entering the residential construction industry comes with barriers like navigating complex regulations, securing significant upfront capital, and facing a skilled labor shortage. There are also challenges with fluctuating material costs and building a strong reputation in a competitive market. However, we’ve been very fortunate not to face these obstacles, allowing us to focus on delivering quality homes from the start.
As you know, we’re big fans of Fresh Soil Custom Homes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Fresh Soil Custom Homes is a Dallas-based home builder specializing in spec builds and custom homes. We are currently working on two projects: our Maybeth project in Dallas, which is scheduled to be completed and hit the market by the end of November, and our Baldwin project in Red Oak, where we will be breaking ground in the coming weeks.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the residential construction industry undergoing several significant shifts. One of the biggest trends will likely be an increased focus on sustainability and energy-efficient homes. As more homeowners become conscious of environmental impact and energy costs, there will be greater demand for eco-friendly building materials, solar power, and energy-efficient designs.
Another major trend will be the integration of smart home technology. Features like automated lighting, security systems, and climate control are becoming standard expectations for new builds, particularly as technology becomes more accessible and reliable.
Additionally, there could be a rise in smaller, more efficient homes, as urban spaces become more crowded and land prices continue to rise. Tiny homes, modular homes, and innovative designs that maximize space will likely grow in popularity.
