Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Weatherhead
Hi Tammy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Never in a million years did I think I would call myself “Content Creator” at the age of forty three. I was a commodities trader for over fifteen years and after deciding to stop working to support my husband, I was lost. You don’t realize how much of your identity is tied to your career until one day it’s gone. One of my closest friends always said in passing that I should do skincare videos and I would just eyeroll that idea; I’m old and only used instagram to post my occasional vacation pics! – one day, since I had nothing to do, I decided to give it a try. My goal was to simplify skincare and to show people that you don’t have to have a ten step skincare routine in order to have glowing skin.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning something completely new. Figuring out social media, how to film, edit and to make engaging yet educational content. When you have a “regular” job and start at a new company there is someone there to show you the ropes. Social media you literally have millions of creators to learn from yet no one to guide you. I did a lot of research and studying and it was a lot of trial and error.
I think my journey has been fun although frustrating at times. But because I had nothing to compare it to it has been a fun adventure.
Not having a manual helped me in terms of using my business acumen and applying that knowledge into this new creative space and being able to push boundaries when it comes to dealing with brands/business.
One thing I’m constantly working is on not being online 24/7; it’s hard but if you don’t set rules for yourself, you can get sucked into hours of doom scrolling and then you’re never present with the people in your life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When people hear “influencer” or “content creator” they probably roll their eyes because people don’t think of it as a real career – I know I did. Being a Skincare & Beauty Content Creator is not only about creating content but building a community. People love to hear real, honest reviews of why they should or shouldn’t spend their hard-working money on a product. I love hearing feedback from my community and that helps with the direction of my content – if someone says they need help with dry skin, then I make a series of dry skin content. Same goes for specific products, I go out and buy it and do an honest review of why they should or shouldn’t purchase it. My success relies on my community because without them I don’t have a voice.
What does success mean to you?
Success isn’t about a destination but a journey. Without my community I don’t have a platform/voice. They are the reason why I create content and strive for success. Success isn’t just about me but about people and the connections we make along the way.
