Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariannah Y Diego
Hi Mariannah y Diego, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The journey of Mariannah y Diego started with Diego Archer’s own transformation. After converting to Christianity in 2011, Diego was inspired to share his faith in new ways. In 2016, he traveled to Cuba on a mission trip, where he met Mariannah Aguilera at Calvary Church in Old Havana. They quickly became friends and stayed in touch, finding common ground in their love for music and their faith.
In 2019, Diego decided to form a music duo to use his talents to share Christianity with people unfamiliar with it. After careful consideration, he invited Mariannah to join him. Though initially hesitant, Mariannah prayed about the opportunity and felt it was the right direction. Together, they began producing music that year, releasing their first single, “Bello Eres,” on February 14, 2020.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced them to work remotely, their music quickly gained popularity across Latin America. They toured as a team, traveling to countries like Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, and Guyana, building a dedicated following.
Eventually, Mariannah and her husband Alejandro moved to Florida to be closer to Diego, who is based in Texas. Now, they continue to create and perform music together, dedicated to inspiring others with their faith through modern Christian music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The duo’s biggest challenge was working in remote collaboration and distance: The duo started working together while living in different countries. Producing music across borders was challenging, especially given the need for in-person partnerships to achieve a cohesive sound and shared vision. When COVID-19 hit, it amplified the obstacles of distance. They were forced to adapt by recording separately and communicating remotely, which delayed projects and made it harder to capture the energy and chemistry of working side-by-side. However, they have successfully released music every month for 4 years since they started working together,
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Mariannah y Diego are known for their innovative approach to Christian music, blending faith-filled messages with modern, electronic soundscapes. Their music combines genres like electro-pop, chill-wave, tropical house, disco, modern gospel, and dance, creating a unique style that sets them apart from more traditional Christian ministries. This fusion appeals especially to younger listeners, who may feel disconnected from conventional worship music.
What separates Mariannah y Diego from other ministries is their commitment to using contemporary, genre-bending music as a tool for outreach. Their goal is to reach people who may not typically attend church or listen to Christian music. Diego’s vision, rooted in his own conversion experience, was to create music that feels accessible and inviting, breaking down barriers that can sometimes exist around Christian messages.
Additionally, their personal journeys and authenticity resonate deeply with their audience. They create music with a clear purpose: to inspire a personal connection to God, no matter one’s background. Their songs often tackle themes of hope, redemption, and the power of faith in ways that feel fresh and relatable. Songs like “Te Busqué,” “Al Pie de la Cruz,” and “Sigo” are not only spiritually uplifting but also musically engaging, pulling from both Latin and global influences.
Beyond their sound, their music videos and live performances tell stories and provide visuals that are intentional and symbolic, designed to evoke the transformative journey from darkness to light. Filmed in locations like Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia, these videos also represent their international roots and the diversity of the Latin American faith community.
Their willingness to be vulnerable and open about their own faith journeys, struggles, and triumphs gives Mariannah y Diego a rare authenticity that resonates with audiences. They emphasize inclusivity and the power of grace, positioning themselves as relatable figures within the ministry, more like friends sharing their stories than a distant platform. This genuine, down-to-earth approach makes them a distinctive voice in Christian music, reaching people worldwide and fostering a community that celebrates diversity and unity in faith.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Mariannah y Diego took significant risks to pursue their vision, especially Mariannah, who faced unique challenges as a Cuban artist engaging in an international Christian music ministry.
Political and Social Sensitivity in Cuba: As a Cuban artist, Mariannah risked navigating political sensitivities in a country where religious expression and collaboration with foreign ministries can be scrutinized. While religious freedoms have improved, restrictions remain, and public expressions of faith, particularly in partnership with international organizations, can be viewed with caution. Mariannah’s decision to participate in a Christian music ministry that collaborates with global artists brought potential risks of social or governmental disapproval, as her work involves openly sharing Christian messages that may not align with every aspect of Cuban policies or cultural norms.
Personal and Financial Investment: Both Mariannah and Diego made substantial personal and financial sacrifices to start the project independently. With limited financial resources and no major label backing, they build their won label called Christian MYDIA (which stands for their names (Mariannah y Diego Archer)self-funded their music production, travel, marketing, and outreach efforts, which involved considerable personal risk. This financial commitment required faith and resilience, especially given the uncertainty of finding an audience or generating income from their music ministry.
