Hi Filip, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Pickle Juice Company was inspired by the September 2001 NFL match between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles which was, at the time the hottest game in the history of the NFL with a field surface temperature of 112 degrees. The favored Cowboys lost and it was revealed that the victories Eagles were drinking pickle brine to stave off cramping. The original founders of the Pickle Juice Company began bottling brine. In 2010, a research team out of BYU discovered that muscle cramps are a neurological phenomenon rather than a physiological one. With that information, the Pickle Juice Company was able to discover a proprietary grain and blend of acetic acid that blocks the nerve receptors that cause muscle cramps and the only product in the world scientifically proven to completely stop muscle cramps in less than a minute and a half was born. Since then, the product has grown to be accepted by top sports teams around the world from the NFL and MLB in the USA to World Rugby, Cricket, Soccer teams, multiple Olympic delegations and much more. Pickle Juice® is available at approximately 15,000 retail stores, in the USA, stores in Europe, the Pan Pacific, Canada and continues to expand with growth planned for the South American and middle Eastern markets in the next couple of years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Developing a new product type, category, science and go to market strategy with virtually no marketing budget is not without it’s challenges but it has allowed us to develop real grassroots relationships with some amazing brand ambassadors, vocal endorsers, retailers and passionate affiliates who share our vision, approach to business and values. As Director of Sales, Blake Boulton, often says: “We are a large company with a small workforce”. Our collaborative and rising tides culture has helped us overcome challenges that many organizations would not have been able to navigate.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have developed the only product in the world that has been scientifically proven to stop and prevent muscle cramps completely and within a minute and a half. We have developed a unique go to market strategy that combines elements of the traditional CPG, Experiential and Mission based models and have developed partnerships with numerous third party entities to allow our business to scale at a rapid pace. We’ve won numerous awards including, most recently, the Innovation Award and the Global SIAL trade show in Paris. We are extremely fortunate to have a team of very talented team-mates that are among the best in the business in bringing products to market in new and creative ways that resonates with today’s consumer. We are always aiming to set the standard rather than follow the crowd.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid 19 and the subsequent supply chain challenges taught us the value of planning, redundancy and business efficiency, We developed the “rule of 3” during this period where we ensured that we had 3 suppliers for every ingredient and component part, maintain a 3 month supply of all raw materials and a 3 month supply of finished products. As a result, we were able to continue our growth during Covid with zero outbreaks as extremely diligent safety measures were being followed and did not miss one single delivery window then or since.
