Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Kelly
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey through the world of dance is truly. A journey.. Started my training at 14 in Atlanta, I may have been considered a late bloomer,
but I quickly made up for lost time with my dedication and talent. Training with master teachers worldwide honed my skills, leading to an incredible
opportunity with the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater under the guidance of Judith Jamison and Masazumi Chaya. My stint in Broadway’s
“The Lion King” as a guest dancer further solidified my place in the dance world.
Transitioning into the commercial dance scene, I continued to rise, catching the eye of Creative Director Choreographer Travis Payne. My
breakthrough was moment with “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” Season 8, where I dazzled audiences and earned a spot in the final top 10, followed
by a national city tour. From there, my career soared, with appearances at NYC Fashion Week, collaborations with brands like Nike, and performances for
luminaries such as Serena Williams and Michelle Obama. A year-long contract with Cirque Du Soleil added another impressive chapter to my resume.
Yet, My journey isn’t just about personal success; it’s about uplifting others and fostering diversity in dance. As a creative director and movement coach, i worked with
some of the biggest names in music, from Celine Dion to Beyoncé, while also nurturing upcoming talent like Chloe Bailey , Halle Bailey and CoCo Jones.My
passion for empowerment led me to establish MKS JEWELS LIVE, a platform dedicated to motivating and empowering women through the arts.
But perhaps the most fulfilling role is that of a mentor. Having been guided by legends. now I pays it forward by training and mentoring
dancers, some of whom have become social media sensations. My ultimate goal is to give back to the dance community, providing opportunities for others
to realize their full potential just as i was encouraged to do. My career is not just a testament to my talent but also to the power perseverance, mentorship, and paying it forward in the world of dance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
People often see the name, the legacy, and assume the path was paved without struggles, not realizing the intense dedication, resilience, and self-work it takes to keep that legacy alive and stay true to yourself. It’s tough when others try to diminish or use your efforts without understanding the challenges you face just to hold your place. That feeling of being misunderstood, especially when you’re putting everything into what you do, can feel isolating. Know that your commitment to your craft, and the truth in your journey, speaks louder than any of that outside noise.
