Meet Jessica Nunez of TruePoint Communications in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Nunez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my company in 2006, a few months after having my first child. I’ve always said, “I don’t know much about being a mom or an entrepreneur, and so I might as well jump in and learn both as I go.” Now it’s all I’ve ever known and I love it. Over the past 11 years TruePoint has grown to nearly 30 employees. My family has grown, too. My husband Robert and I now have two sweet daughters: Alexa (11) and Avamarie (4).

I had the idea to start TruePoint because I’m passionate about building PR and marketing strategies that propel businesses forward. I like to create operational efficiencies and design programs that generate meaningful business and brand results. I love to solve business problems. Since starting TruePoint I’ve learned that my role as a leader is much bigger then serving clients. I find joy in propelling others forward – developing others and inspiring them to accomplish their dreams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I often times say I went to the ‘Hard Knocks School of Business.’ Some lessons I learned the hard way, and they were probably more costly than a business degree! I bootstrapped my business and launched two years before the economy collapsed. I had to learn quickly how to navigate through a down market. That has made us stronger and I believe we’re more resilient as a result.

While I knew how to execute PR and marketing strategies, I have invested a lot in developing my leadership. Now I’m committed to growing more leaders among my team at TruePoint and our clients.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m most proud of the work environment we have created for women. We’ve created a practice group for highly professional, skilled women who can work from home yet continue to serve large clients. They are working on high performing teams for Fortune 10-500 clients, while they maintain their desire to prioritize their family. We’re helping them live integrated lives where family is first and they can still generate meaningful results in their professional life.

TruePoint was founded in 2006 as a full-service integrated marketing communications agency that provides public relations, media relations, social media, e-PR and crisis communications.

Our team of publicists and digital media experts develop an integrated approach to serve the unique needs of each client.

What were you like growing up?
My marketing career started young. In kindergarten, I rebranded myself. I told everyone my name was Jill. When my mom came to school in May to deliver treats for my birthday celebration, no one knew who she was talking about. The teachers and students knew me as Jill.

I was voted Most Social and Most Athletic in junior high. I choose to believe that the social skill set I was honing at a young age has paid off in my career as a marketer and entrepreneur.

My junior year of high school I withdrew myself and enrolled in a private school. I got a job to help pay for my monthly tuition. I attended private school for a year until we moved to another city. In all, I attended 5 high schools in 3.5 years. I ended up graduating early in December.

I was a competitive swimmer and high diver. I started the women’s high diving team at my high school my sophomore year.
