Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashmi Patel
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a passion for design as a kid, I would always be the one to build furniture and put peices together and I always thought- how cool would it be to create spaces for people where it feels like “Home”. My real journey began when I was just 17. I was walking through a hallway in college when I came across a display showcasing interior design students’ work. I stood there, captivated, thinking, How cool would it be if I could take this path? However, as an immigrant from India, the expectation was to pursue a career that guaranteed financial stability and success. So, I chose to major in Business Finance.
After college, I landed a job as a financial analyst, but life had other plans for me. My career transitioned into the e-commerce side of tech, where I spent several years. During this time, I was also working on my MBA. It was around then that my husband and I moved into a newly built home, and I started documenting my decorating journey on Instagram and my blog as a creative outlet—a side “hobby” at the time.
In December 2018, I graduated with my MBA. By February 2019, I decided to take a leap of faith decided to start my blog and soon after began offering mood board services. The interest and encouragement I received fueled my passion even further, and I continued working on interior design projects in my free time—all while balancing a full-time job in tech, two little kids, and a busy household. It was a lot, but I genuinely loved every moment of it and often dreamed of doing it full-time.
However, stepping away from a stable career and consistent paycheck was daunting. That changed when my family and I relocated to Dallas to be closer to extended family. Shortly after our move, I was laid off from my tech job. While it was a tough and unexpected transition, I saw it as the opportunity I’d been waiting for—a chance to pursue my dream of interior design full-time.
It’s now been six months since I took the leap to run RushMeHome Designs full-time. The journey has been challenging but incredibly fulfilling. Owning a business takes determination, sacrifices, and grit, but seeing the impact of my work in bringing beautiful spaces to life for my clients makes it all worthwhile. I’m excited about what’s to come in 2025 as I continue to grow RushMeHome Designs and the brand as a whole.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t believe any journey is ever a smooth road. Every path I’ve taken in life has come with its own set of challenges, but I’ve learned to view each struggle as a lesson that helped me grow.
Initially, one of the biggest struggles was feeling accepted in the field. As someone new, it felt like I had to work extra hard to carve out my own space and prove myself. I focused on staying true to what was important to me—creating beautiful, meaningful spaces for my clients. That focus became my guiding light.
Another major challenge was the reality of owning a business. It’s not just about doing what you love; you’re suddenly wearing so many hats. You become the accountant, social media strategist, designer, videographer, and more. Starting out, when capital is low, it can feel overwhelming. There’s also the fear of not having the consistent paycheck you’ve relied on, which can be daunting at times.
As a woman of color, there’s an added layer of challenge. I’ve often felt the need to work twice as hard to prove myself in spaces where people might doubt my abilities. But I embrace that as part of my purpose. I believe I’m here to show others—and especially my kids—that you can achieve your dreams with hard work, determination, and belief in yourself. Your accomplishments are yours, and they’re a testament to what’s possible when you follow your passion.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the Owner and Lead Designer at RushMeHome Designs.
We are a boutique interior design firm dedicated to offering a variety of services, including bespoke space designs, virtual design solutions, renovations, and new build projects. Our mission is to craft spaces that are not only visually stunning but also tailored to meet the unique needs and lifestyles of our clients, providing both beauty and functionality.
If you’re ready to transform your home into a space that’s both functional and beautiful, the journey begins with an initial consultation through our website. From there, we’ll guide you every step of the way to bring your vision to life.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you have to consistently show up for yourself, especially when things get tough, and giving up feels like the easier option. While having a support system is invaluable, at the end of the day, if you don’t show up for yourself, no one else can do it for you.
As an entrepreneur, grit and consistency are essential. Building and sustaining a business requires unwavering dedication to your vision. It’s about staying focused on what you want to achieve and being proud of the brand you’re creating and the value you bring to the table. This lesson has carried me through challenging times and continues to motivate me every day.
