Community Highlights: Meet Jessica Paxton of The Chameleon VA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Paxton

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I started freelancing, it wasn’t because I had it all figured out—it was because I knew what wasn’t working. I had tried working from home in a call center after my first child was born, but being stuck at my desk while someone else cared for my baby felt so wrong. I even did the whole MLM program selling other people’s products, but it wasn’t something that felt like me.

I eventually went back to traditional employment and while that option paid the bills, I hated missing those precious moments with my daughter. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there had to be a better way.

Freelancing was my solution, but let me tell you—it was intimidating at first. I didn’t have any fancy credentials or experience owning a business. Thank goodness I had guidance from an incredible mentor (and my now business coach) to help answer those questions that my resourceful self couldn’t quite figure out on my own!

I started as a virtual assistant and although I was nervous I didn’t know enough, I was determined to figure it out. I went the “safe route” and treated it like a side hustle, learning everything I could and testing out different freelancing ideas in between work hours and family time. Through that messy action, I started to gain clarity in what it was I wanted to do, which led me to specializing in social media marketing. When I finally made the decision & committed to going all in on this business idea (COVID sure helped with that), I replaced and doubled my full-time income in just two months.

As I grew my business, I realized something that changed everything—I wasn’t the only mom struggling to figure it all out. So many women wanted a flexible way to work from home and freelancing was the answer, but they didn’t know where to start or how to market themselves because they didn’t have a clear niche. That’s when I realized I could help.

I gave up the newly established & successful business I had just created, and in a way started all over. I began focusing on helping other moms discover their ‘it factor’ and build businesses they loved—ones that worked for their family life, not against it. This was extremely important to me as my family size was growing.

Now, I get to support moms just like me—who don’t want to choose between family or finances. Moms who want more than just a paycheck.

I help these moms find clarity in where they’re going & help draw out their inner confidence so they can build something meaningful, all while being present for the people who matter most. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wish I could sit here and say that being an entrepreneur is easy, but that’s far from the truth. Yes, it’s incredibly rewarding, and you learn so much about yourself along the way, but the challenges are real, and they don’t just disappear. That’s life.

There have been days when I’ve questioned whether I was cut out for this. Balancing my personal ambitions with being a mother has been one of the hardest challenges I’ve faced. That mom guilt is real—the kind that makes you second-guess focusing on anything outside of your kids.

I’ve also fallen for the trap of peer pressure and FOMO marketing. I’ve invested in things that didn’t truly serve me or align with my goals. And of course, there have been moments when I’ve struggled with the idea of not being good enough. Those feelings hit especially hard when a product or service doesn’t take off the way I’d hoped, and I’m left wondering, ‘Did I do enough? Did I miss something?’

But even through all of that, I keep going. I don’t just want this—it’s a full-blown passion and mission for me. I’m doing this because I know there’s a quiet mama at home with the same dream I had, and she needs someone to show her it’s possible. If I quit, who’s going to help her?

My ‘why’ is what gets me through those tough days—my family, my kids, and the women I know I can help. They’re the reason I don’t give up, even when it feels hard.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Chameleon VA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I help moms who want to work from home discover their unique ‘it factor’ so they can build a freelancing business they feel confident about. Many of the moms I work with don’t even know where to start. They know they want something flexible that allows them to be present for their kids, but the idea of freelancing feels overwhelming—like, ‘What could I possibly offer?’ or ‘What if I choose the wrong thing?’ That’s where I come in.

I specialize in helping moms uncover their passions, skills, and strengths and turn them into profitable freelance services. My work focuses heavily on niching down because I truly believe that finding clarity in what you want to do and who you want to serve is the secret to feeling confident and aligned in your business.

What sets me apart is my approach. I’m not about creating a cookie-cutter solution or pressuring moms into ideas that don’t feel right for them. My brand is warm, empathetic, and rooted in real-life experience because I’ve been where these moms are. I understand the fears, doubts, and struggles they’re dealing with. My coaching is practical, approachable, and designed to meet them where they are, without sugarcoating the challenges of freelancing.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is how personal and relatable my work is. I don’t just teach moms how to niche down or build a freelancing business—I show them what’s possible when they lean into their strengths and help prove to themselves that they are more than capable. Seeing these mamas gain confidence to say “yes” to the possibility or finally feel like they’re on the right path is the most rewarding part of what I do.

I offer several resources to support moms at different stages of their freelancing journey. For those just starting, I have a free guide that introduces them to 5 in demand & profitable freelancing niches. I also have a workbook called Niche Down with AI, where moms can combine journaling and AI to quickly find their aligned business idea.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know about my brand, it’s this: You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing if it doesn’t feel right or support your goals. You are enough just the way you are, so give yourself permission to explore YOUR strengths and see what happens. You CAN make this freelancing thing work using the skills & experiences you have right now, but if you need a little extra support, then I’m here for you!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
There is this quote that I love to share and it goes a little something like this: “Don’t be so certain of what you think you know.” When I first heard this, it really struck a chord with me. It was so simple, yet so true.

We can create scenarios in our minds about what could happen, but we don’t actually know what will happen until we allow ourselves to go out there and experience it firsthand.

So if you’re thinking “I don’t know if I’ll be good at or like this freelancing service” or “people won’t want what I have to offer”, go out there and find out, mama. And since you have the power to shift & choose, you get to decide what you do next after you’ve seen the outcome.
