Today we’d like to introduce you to Byron Guyton
Hi Byron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Vision One Seven began as a personal project to preserve cherished memories for my family, but quickly evolved into a business dedicated to helping others do the same. Our mission is to capture unforgettable moments for our clients, whether it be for personal or professional endeavors.
My wife purchased my first camera in 2017. Initially I wanted to focus on video simply to create clips to share during family time. Shortly after, I began creating videos for close friends and my work eventually transitioned into local schools. A friend/mentor urged me to try photography to gain a better understanding of framing and composition. The more I practiced, the more I became intrigued by the process.
With a background in Architecture, an early passion of mine, the photography process a had similar approach. Architecture design and portrait photography both share creative processes that balance technical skill and connection with emotional expression. I decided to take some college courses during the Summer of 2022, to learn how the camera works and get familiar with the terminology, so that I wouldn’t sound like a complete id*ot when I asked questions. Portrait photography gave me a sense of freedom and adaptability. I was able to understand how the connections between people, surroundings, and details create the perfect shot.
Whether drafting blueprints or manipulating light and composition—my objective has always been to bring visions to life. My goal is to create meaningful and lasting impressions through my services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business comes with many challenges. Managing all areas of the business can feel overwhelming, from developing your skills and engaging with clients to handling marketing, finances, and budgeting. Unlike large companies that rely on teams of specialists, entrepreneurs are responsible for every department. However, the upside of this process is the pride you take in your work, which helps you uncover and solidify your sense of value.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our current clientele includes families, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and school/local governments. We strive to bring our client’s visions to life, while also continuing to grow and strengthen our brand. Our long-term goal is to reach clients globally and expand into digital marketing to provide media services that would resonate with audiences worldwide.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In the beginning, I believed that better equipment guaranteed better results. I later realized that the expensive equipment were just tools. What truly mattered were my skills. I started focusing on developing my technique, enrolled in some summer courses and found a good mentor or two. I started to understand and recognize where I could get better. I started not to stress about the mistakes, but learned from them by practicing good habits. My equipment became just an extension of my creative vision which enhanced my work.
As a photographer, preparation is key, but some of my best moments have come from unplanned, spontaneous creations. Preparing for a shoot allows you to have structure and better manage time. However, it is important to allow your subject to be natural in their surroundings in order to capture the beauty in each session. Both techniques—planning and improvising—are equally important. It helps the final product of every shoot to tell a story.
