Meet Charles Henry of Woodhaven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Henry

Hi Charles, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for asking. It is a pleasure to answer because I am a private person but have been encouraged to open up and embrace this interview. So thank you again.

I started in a strip club because it was the first opportunity that opened for me. After years of shooting clubs, lounges, models, artists, entertainers and industry professionals, I found myself in the non-profit sector where I am able to create with purpose.

I have always believed that professionals use professional imagery. The same holds true for the nonprofit sector. There are some awesome organizations and individuals changing and saving lives and I want to help amplify their impact using my gifts and talents.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I bet you know the answer to that. Of course not. There have been a lot of challenges along the way but every path has its own share of them. When it came to photography, my biggest challenge was marrying the business side of the profession with the creative side of the craft. Now that those things have aligned for me, I approach my work with a clearer vision, more confidence and a greater sense of purpose.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Those are good questions. I am best know for Behind The Scenes, Candids and Special Events.

For starters, I spent 5 years studying photography before I ever took my first shot so I am constantly composing pictures even when no camera is in my hand. Therefore when I pick up a camera now I have the natural ability to see and capture the vibe of a room or situation very quickly.

That along with shooting without the aide of off camera lights is what sets me apart from others in my field. Capturing and exposing clear photos in low light is a very difficult skill to master and I am able to do this easily and efficiently in situations with no light.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is everything we do must be about people first. In serving others we in return serve ourselves. When I approach a situation selfishly no one benefits; but the opposite is true when I focus first on how I can best serve the person I’m working for and/or with.

There is no grey area in this principle. Selflessness is a necessary mindset to cultivate in every professional and personal area of our lives.
