Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Vidal
Hi Erika , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Brownsville, TX, as the youngest of four in a hardworking family of Mexican immigrants. My mom worked at a factory for over 30 years sewing Levi’s jeans before stepping into the role of a business owner. (She was my first ever business mentor!) While my dad worked the night shift as a maintenance worker for many years to support our family. Growing up, I was always the kid with big ambitions, eager to be involved in everything. From Girl Scouts to Art UIL, National Honor Society, volleyball, track, cheerleading, gymnastics, and even science and history fairs —if it sparked my curiosity, I was all in. At just nine years old, I discovered my passion for dance, which instilled discipline, resilience, and a drive for continuous growth. Establishing these qualities early on carried me through attending a fine arts high school, competing in state competitions and in achieving my dream of becoming a collegiate dancer at Texas State University.
After earning a business degree, I explored various fields, working in hospitality in South Padre Island, TX, and accounting in Houston, TX. My leap into the tech world came when I joined Citigroup as a Bilingual Spanish-Speaking UX Designer/Web Creative, an opportunity that brought me to Dallas. This journey, filled with learning and adaptability, provided me with the foundation and confidence to create and grow my own web design business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path hasn’t been easy at all, it’s been filled with challenges, sacrifices, figuring out my next steps, and adjusting to a new city. Shortly after moving to Dallas, I faced a major setback when I was laid off from my role at Citigroup. Around that time, I also experienced the loss of two family members to substance abuse, battled my own health issues with thyroid disease, learned about my sister’s breast cancer diagnosis and went through a painful breakup. Despite everything, I remained focused on building my career in tech and starting my own business. Hope and resilience kept me going through the toughest times. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed before attending networking events or client meetings, but I pushed through, wiped away the tears, and kept moving forward. I didn’t let the setbacks define me; instead, I turned them into fuel to grow stronger, inspire others, and keep pushing forward toward my goals.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I predict that the web design industry will continue to be shaped by significant advancements in AI and automation. These technologies will enable faster, more personalized website experiences, providing real-time data and insights to improve design decisions and user engagement. I believe that, while these tools will streamline the process and boost efficiency, there will still be a growing need for a personalized, human touch. My focus will be to guide others through these changes, ensuring that they not only adapt to new trends but also maintain authentic connections with their customers.
