Today we’d like to introduce you to Albooby
Hi Albooby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is one of passion, resilience, and serendipity. I was born in Congo, where my love for music began to take shape. Growing up amidst the rich cultural sounds of my homeland, I developed a deep appreciation for the power of music to tell stories and connect people. Over time, my journey led me to South Africa, where I spent years honing my craft, blending my Congolese roots with the vibrant influences of Afrobeat and hip-hop. There, I found my unique voice as an artist—a fusion of languages, genres, and cultures that defines who I am today.
The turning point in my journey came when I met Bella. I was a guest on her podcast called *Bella DuPlexis Coming Right at You.* From the moment we met, I was smitten—not just by her beauty but by her drive, ambition, and how she carried herself. What started as an interview quickly became a connection rooted in our shared passion for the industry and our ability to understand each other’s dreams and goals. Bella wasn’t just someone I admired—she became someone I could build a life and legacy with.
Our bond grew stronger, and before long, I found myself moving to Texas to be with her. This move wasn’t just about love; it was also about partnership. Together, we’ve continued the podcast as co-hosts under Bella DuPlexis Coming Right at You with Albooby, creating a platform where we connect with artists, visionaries, and changemakers worldwide.
Of course, the journey hasn’t always been smooth. From navigating the challenges of transitioning to life in a new country to balancing the demands of our careers with our lives together, every step has required effort, resilience, and a commitment to our shared vision. But having Bella by my side has made everything worthwhile.
Today, I’m proud to be not just an artist but also a husband and father, working alongside my wife to build something meaningful. My story started with a dream in Congo, grew through hard work and perseverance in South Africa, and has reached new heights here in Texas. And I know that together, Bella and I are only just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an artist is rarely a smooth road—a challenging journey that tests resilience and passion. One of the most significant hurdles is financial instability, especially in the early stages when the investment of time, money, and energy often outweighs the immediate rewards. Pursuing a music career requires countless sacrifices, such as putting personal aspirations or financial security on hold to commit fully to the craft.
Additionally, the emotional toll of dealing with criticism—sometimes harsh and unwarranted—can be challenging to navigate. Artists constantly display their creativity and vulnerability, which opens the door to scrutiny from others. The path is even more problematic because success isn’t guaranteed, and recognition can take years, if not decades, to materialize. Despite these struggles, the passion for creating, connecting with audiences, and staying true to one’s vision keeps the journey worthwhile.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work reflects my identity, experiences, and creativity as an artist. I specialize in Afro-Hip-Hop, a genre that seamlessly allows me to blend multiple languages, cultures, and sounds. My music is deeply rooted in my heritage as a Congolese artist, and I have also drawn inspiration from my time in South Africa and now my life in Texas. This fusion creates a unique sound that bridges the gap between African rhythms and global hip-hop influences.
I’m known for my versatility—not only in my ability to mix languages but also in my talent for weaving together different genres to tell powerful stories through music. What I’m most proud of is how my music connects with people worldwide. Whether it’s a beat that gets them moving or lyrics that resonate personally, I strive to create something that leaves an impact.
Beyond my artistry, my true identity is as a husband and father. These roles ground me and inspire everything I do. My family is my anchor and motivation, pushing me to create a legacy through music and showing my children the value of hard work, authenticity, and perseverance.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and commitment to breaking boundaries. My journey from Congo to South Africa to the U.S. shaped my perspective and allowed me to bring something unique. I don’t just make music—I create experiences, conversations, and connections that transcend cultural and geographic divides. I am dedicated to my family and our values.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about this city is its spirit—the energy, the diversity, and the sense of opportunity that fills the air. It’s a place where people from all walks of life come together, bringing their stories, cultures, and dreams. For me, that sense of community and connection is priceless. It’s also where my family and I are building our future, creating memories, and laying the foundation for a legacy. Whether it’s taking my daughter to local parks, exploring the vibrant music and food scenes, or simply enjoying the warmth of the people here, this city has become a true home for us.
What I like least about the city is the challenges that can sometimes overshadow its potential—like the pace of life that can make it hard for people to truly connect or the struggles faced by those who don’t always feel seen or heard. But even in that, I see an opportunity. It’s a reminder that as a community, we can work together to create spaces where everyone feels they belong, where family values are cherished, and where creativity and kindness can thrive.
This city inspires me every day—not just as an artist, but as a husband and father—to dream big and to contribute in ways that make it even better for my family and for everyone who calls it home.
