Today we’d like to introduce you to Josue Ramirez
Hi Josue, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well I’m a immigrant from el Salvador I immigrated to the USA in 2017 Due to gang Violence, Since I was a Kid I always love dancing and Culture all over the world.
Back when I was a child in kindergarten I used to hide from my teacher to show my friends how to dance or show them my dance skills, one time my teacher saw me dancing in the back of the School so she told my grandma and she hit me when I got back home, Growing up in a Christian family dancing was look as not a good thing, Then in 2017 and 2019 I was studying in Costa Mesa High School, I asked my teacher if I she could help change my schedule and add dance class to it and she did it.
My purpose was to let people know about afro beats and to kill the stereotype some people have of Africa.
It was a kind of weird experience for my because I was used to dance only in front of my friends but now I have to do it in front of a large audience, I was shy but with time I learned how to be confidence and just express myself through dance.
A year before graduation I had to leave California to move to Dallas, so I did a little performance for my dance class everyone enjoyed it The next day my teacher asked me to lead the class and teach them how to dance afro beats it was an experience.
I end up moving to Dallas and I started my last year at School in Irving High School.
It was a whole different environment compere to California, I did the same thing and got myself into dance class I introduce everyone to afro beats once again they loved it. after graduation I started working and helped my mom pay the bills Etc.
Around May 8 I met Obi a dance teacher at Idanz Studio we became friends from the first day after I met him started meting a lot of Well know dancer in Dallas they invited me to different events related to afro beats after that I started recording dance videos sometimes with friends sometimes by myself, I started going out to different clubs I discover amazing events such as Afro beats and Happiness’, YanossRoom, Apollo Wrldx and more I made new friends with Djs and promoters I’m always getting invite to events to performer and hype the people. a few events that really help me put my name out there was definitely Afro beats to the world and Yanos Room they invited me to stage and performe with profetionals i was amazing and now at this time I still working for my legacy and to Put the Name of My Country on the map.
but that Is a story for another day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely one of the things I have experience when it comes to performing in some places is racism but it WILL NOT STOP ME!! My love for dancing is bigger than all of that. beside that I would say life is not easy but I never back down.
Obviously GOD is been my rock without him I cant do anything
a person who have help me grow as a man and dancer have been Nipsey Hussle a Legend of Los Angeles.
his wisdom have help me a lot.
Nipsey Hussle said, “Once you start just keep going, you’re closer to where you’re trying to get than where you started from”.
