Today we’d like to introduce you to Rowda Baker
Rowda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2011 with degrees in Marketing and Management. Driven by my passion for helping others, I pursued a career in Talent Acquisition, where I’ve spent the past 13 years working across diverse industries, including oil and gas, biotechnology, and most recently, healthcare. I have been in the healthcare technology industry for the past 4 years and I love it.
In 2018, I felt the need for a creative outlet and turned to one of my lifelong passions—fashion. I started sharing my outfits on Instagram as a way to express myself and fill a gap I noticed in the blogging world. At the time, there weren’t many POC bloggers, and as a proud Middle Eastern (specifically Palestinian) woman, I wanted to contribute to changing that narrative and celebrating more representation.
I relocated from Oklahoma City to Dallas in 2021 and have been here ever since. I absolutely love the vibrant art, fashion, and creativity that Dallas has to offer!
While I consider myself a micro-influencer, I truly enjoy sharing not only my style but also the little things that bring joy to my life—like my go-to coffee creamer recommendations, which have become surprisingly popular! It’s been an amazing journey to connect with others over fashion, lifestyle, and the small pleasures that brighten our days.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth journey for me. Career-wise, I’ve faced multiple layoffs, but each new opportunity taught me something valuable. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. Those layoffs landed me somewhere today where I am extremely grateful to be at.
When it comes to blogging, I haven’t been as active since 2020—a year that shifted my perspective on many things. Growing on Instagram has become increasingly challenging without something going viral, but that’s no longer my focus. Instead, I’m working on getting back into it and sharing content that genuinely brings me joy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I don’t share much about what I do on Instagram but I work in the healthcare startup industry, specifically in cardiology, as the Senior Director of Talent Acquisition. We’re a rapidly growing, small company, and I oversee all hiring efforts nationwide for the cardiology practices we partner with. Currently, we have partnerships in Texas, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Maryland.
I take great pride in my work and the empathy I bring to the role. Having been on the job seeker’s side before, I always strive to put myself in their shoes. This perspective drives me to create a thoughtful and compassionate hiring experience for every candidate.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a big role in my life and career, in both good and bad ways. I’ve been laid off more times than I’d like to admit, and at the time, it felt like a string of bad luck. But looking back, each of those moments pushed me toward something better—new jobs, new skills, and new perspectives.
I also feel lucky to have found work I genuinely care about. Opportunities have come my way that I didn’t expect, and they’ve helped shape the path I’m on now.
For me, luck is a mix of timing and mindset. I try to see the silver lining, even in tough times, and make the most of whatever comes my way. It’s not always easy, but I think that combination of gratitude and persistence has made all the difference.
