Life & Work with Ben Noura Soumahoro of Downtown Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Noura Soumahoro

Hi Ben Noura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a passion for brows and beauty. My name is Ben Prentice, and I’m the proud owner of Joliette Beauty Lab, a permanent makeup studio located in Downtown Dallas.

Three years ago, I moved to Dallas and was working as an IT consultant. While I enjoyed technology, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t following my true passion. I’ve always loved the transformative power of beauty, and brows, in particular, felt like an art form to me.

What started as a side hustle soon became my calling. I poured my heart into building Joliette Beauty Lab, creating a space where clients could feel confident and cared for. Today, it’s my full-time job, and I couldn’t be happier helping people enhance their natural beauty.

At Joliette, I specialize in services like ombre brows, nano brows, and combo brows. I’m also constantly exploring ways to bring more value to my clients, whether it’s introducing new services like lash and brow tinting or making beauty accessible to everyone, including men.

My journey from IT to beauty wasn’t a straight path, but it’s proof that when you follow your passion, incredible things can happen!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
hasn’t been a completely smooth road. building Joliette Beauty Lab has been a journey full of challenges and growth.

When I first started, balancing a demanding job as an IT consultant with running a side business was overwhelming. There were countless late nights and weekends spent perfecting my skills, building my brand, and learning the ins and outs of running a business. Transitioning to full-time entrepreneurship was equally daunting; leaving the security of a steady paycheck to chase a dream required a lot of faith and determination.

Another challenge has been building awareness and growing my client base in a competitive beauty market. Even with a passion for my craft, there were moments of doubt—like slow booking months, managing marketing on my own, and figuring out the best ways to connect with my ideal clients.

On top of that, I’m the only person running Joliette, so I wear all the hats: artist, marketer, customer service rep, and business manager. It’s fulfilling, but it can be exhausting!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Joliette, I specialize in services like ombre brows, nano brows, combo brows, and lip blushing. I’m also constantly exploring ways to bring more value to my clients, whether it’s introducing new services like lash and brow tinting or making beauty accessible to everyone, including men.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One thing I’d love to share is that I’m originally from the Ivory Coast and a native French speaker. My heritage plays a big role in who I am and how I approach my work. Growing up, I was surrounded by vibrant beauty traditions and a strong sense of community, which inspire me to create a welcoming and inclusive space at Joliette Beauty Lab.

I also want to encourage anyone reading this to pursue their passions, even if the path feels uncertain.
