Daily Inspiration: Meet Mimi Dao

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Dao

Hi Mimi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out as a new graduate nurse in 2019 during Covid. I always loved the aesthetic world but when the world was shutting down there was no jobs in aesthetic so I started at bedside at UT southwestern for almost 4 years and then went to cardiac cath. Realizing I was burnt with bedside I thought it was a great time to finally pursue what I always wanted. I started to take courses at Neowell aesthetic and that’s when I realized that’s this is where I belong! I was also bartending in deep ellum because it was hard trying to find a job but after talking to a customer on night he offered me an opportunity of a lifetime and I haven’t turned back since!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, there was been a lot of bumps especially when I left beside completely. Diving in head first and having no clue how to do this was scary! While applying for jobs I worked at as a bartended/server. I got rejected over and over again because finding a job as a new injector was hard. While finding a job at a med spa I was practicing on perfecting my skills at Neowell! It was hard building my clientele as well but I didn’t give up because this is where I wanted to be!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

I’m proud of my work.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t give up.
Take as many courses and classes that you can while you are finding a job.
If you are a brand new nurse it might be a better option to start at bedside first and then transition to working at a med spa. Learning how to manage complications and emergency’s are super important.
Believe in yourself and your skills
No one is perfect so don’t be hard on yourself. Be grateful and gracious.
