Today we’d like to introduce you to David Herrera
David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This is my bio .David Herrera is a Los Angeles native and has danced since he was a kid. Inheriting his abilities from his mother, who won many latin club dance competitions. David was a football and track athlete in college.
He is an renowned expert in salsa, bachata, afro cuban , merengue, mambo and ballroom dance including cha cha cha, swing, tango, rumba, foxtrot, waltz, paso doble, and country. He began dancing and performing in 1999. He has trained with many top professional dancers such as 3 time US ballroom champion Rosendo Fumero , world salsa champion Liz Lira , dancing with the stars Anya Fuchs , world mambo / US latin ballroom champion Anya Katsevman ,Salsa & Bachata champion Grizzly Hidriago , etc .
One of his former dance partners is internationally recognized all around dancer and former salsa champion Monica Flores .David now teaches, competes, choreographs, performs, host events and acts. Being of Ecuadorian decent, dance is a big part of David’s culture. He feels that he has been blessed to have the opportunity to use his talents to impact people in a positive way.
He has performed for a variety of audiences, including government leaders. He has been interviewed by The New York Times and been a part of many Spanish and American television shows such as, Caso Cerrado, Good Morning Texas, Vive laManana, Big Rich Texas, and Mega TV network.
He has won numerous awards in competitive dance competitions. He is a nationally recognized top dance instructor. He even participated as a dancer / choreographer for the movie premiere of the Dreamworks movie Puss n Boots which starred Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I grew up in a broken home . Having my parents divorce when i was 5 years old and had to grow up in a tough neighborhood in southern california
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional latin / ballroom dancer and teacher . I also host some of the classiest and best salsa nights in dfw .
The only event host to have salsa nights in D magazine , The Dallas Morning news etc .
I also am the dance school in both the salsa / bachata dance community and ballroom dance community in dfw .
And one of the few 1% of teachers in the world in both the salsa / bachata & ballroom dance communities.
I am most proud of making peoples dreams come true. If it be winning at a dance competition , losing weight , helping them in their wedding dance , quinceanera , meeting new friends , accomplishing their dream of performing or even helping them meet their future spouse .
How do you think about happiness?
My relationship with God makes me the happiest . The peace , purpose , power etc
