Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Olumese
Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first got drawn to makeup by watching my mom do her makeup. I don’t remember the exact moment when I realized, oh, I love this, but I know that watching her sparked something in me. By the time I was twelve, I started experimenting with makeup myself.
Growing up, I wore makeup to school and church. And listen, was it great? Absolutely not. But at the time, I felt amazing. I’d do my eyebrows, throw on some powder, and step out like I was that girl. Because you know what they say—when you look good, you feel good. And for me, makeup wasn’t just about looking good; it was fun, it was creative, and it gave me confidence.
As the years went by, I continued immersing myself in makeup, learning from beauty influencers on YouTube. Watching them taught me new techniques, introduced me to different products, and really deepened my passion for the craft. Beauty content became a big part of my life—it was something I turned to when I wanted to unwind or just enjoy the artistry of it all.
At one point, though, I hit a bit of a plateau. I had experimented for so long that I knew what worked for me, so I wasn’t as excited about trying new things. But even during that time, makeup remained something I loved—it was always there, just waiting for me to reignite that spark.
For years, people encouraged me to start a makeup business, but self-doubt and life circumstances always held me back.
Then, early in 2024, something changed. A friend unexpectedly asked me to do her makeup for an event we were both attending. I was surprised because, even though I knew I was good at makeup, I didn’t think I was as skilled as others believed. But I agreed. Pressed for time, I completed her makeup in just 45 minutes, and to my surprise, it turned out flawless. Seeing her light up with confidence was an incredibly rewarding moment. That was when I knew I had the talent and potential to pursue makeup seriously.
From that point on, I committed to growing as a makeup artist. I dedicated time to learning, watching and studying other artists, noting their techniques and product choices. Since I’m entirely self-taught, I knew practice was key. I started refining my skills—first on myself, then on others—and in that process, I fell in love with makeup all over again.
After months of practice and learning, I officially launched my makeup business, Amber’s Artistry, in late August 2024. The support from my community, friends, and family has been incredible. They’ve played such a pivotal role in my business’s success, not only by referring me to their friends and family but also through their support. Thanks to them, I’ve had opportunities I didn’t even expect so early on, including doing editorial makeup looks, bridal makeup, and makeup for special occasions. I’m so grateful for every opportunity I’ve received.
Today, Amber’s Artistry is focused on bridal makeup, which is where I’ve chosen to specialize. Bridal makeup gives me the flexibility to explore other pursuits, as makeup is just one of the many things I enjoy. I promote my business through Instagram and other social media platforms, which has helped me build a growing clientele. Although Amber’s Artistry is still small, I’m excited for what God has in store for the business in 2025.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest obstacles has definitely been self-doubt. In the beginning, I held myself back by not taking full advantage of opportunities to practice on as many people as I could. At times, I even doubted my abilities, comparing my work to that of other artists. My personal anxieties also played a role, especially early on, and I found myself getting caught up in things like post-reaction. Gaining exposure when I first started was another challenge. However, while I’m still figuring out the best ways to market my brand, self-doubt no longer holds me back like it once did.

Amber’s Artistry is a makeup business that focuses on enhancing natural beauty while creating stunning looks for every occasion. I specialize in bridal makeup, and I’m known for my “soft glam” makeup looks, which are timeless, elegant, and subtly enhance the features. What sets me apart is the deep care I take in truly understanding each client’s needs, making sure every detail is perfect for their special day. I’m self-taught, and my growth is fueled by a genuine love for the craft and a commitment to improving with each application.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients and the positive feedback I consistently receive, especially for bridal looks. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that I’ve been part of such important moments for my clients. I’m also proud of how Amber’s Artistry has grown through word of mouth—my friends, family, and clients have been key to spreading the word and helping me build a loyal clientele.
