Today we’d like to introduce you to Twila Henderson DC.
Twila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was introduced to chiropractic at the age of 3. I had club feet so I had braces on my legs to help turn my feet out when my dad met a new chiropractor. He started treating me and in a few months my feet were straight and that changed my life. After my undergrad from UNT, I decided to make a change from the dental field (I was a dental assistant for 18 years) and applied to chiropractic graduate school. I had a friend that was going to lose her visa from Japan if she didn’t go to a graduate program and I asked if she ever thought about being a chiropractor. She had never heard of chiropractic so, we went to an open house that weekend at Parker University in Dallas. She didn’t end up going to chiropractic school but I did. Once, I started chiropractic school. I soon realized,I was created to be a chiropractor. I love seeing people’s lives changed due to what I do to help the body heal. My mission is to inspire people to transform their health through chiropractic care. The body is designed to heal itself if we give it the right stuff so, I address healing with aligning the spine or any joint in the body, strengthening weak muscles, restoring function by physiotherapy if needed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is never easy but it’s been worth it. I didn’t have money to start a business but I was going to do it no matter what, so my boyfriend loaned me $10,000 to start it. That’s been 4 1/2 years now and we are still going strong. I started doing some networking groups before I opened and have continued with doing that several times month. I’ve done lunch and learns at offices and grew my business by referrals from nurse practitioners, medical doctors and physical therapist. Hiring the right people to increase business flow has been challenging at times. There is no option to fail so, I make it intentional to be successful.
Please tell us about Brain-Body Connection Chiropractic.
My business specialty is chiropractic. I do chiropractic and physical rehabilitation and brain balancing. I’m known for working to resolve issues in the body using physiotherapy, chiropractic and nutrition. I’m proud to be a place that helps people function better with increased range of motion, reduction in pain and balancing of muscles and the brain. Spinal decompression is offered here to help correct spinal herniations, bulges or protrusions and help remove nerve compression from degeneration. Decompression can help patients avoid surgery. We have a licensed massage therapist that is here and many people will see her first and then me afterwards. It’s an open concept office and many people end up making friends with other patients. My goal is to get results and I work hard to accomplish that for everyone. It may not be a one time fix but usually is a process. I take the time to do a comprehensive exam and then treatment is also full body. Many patients have said, I do more than any other chiropractor they have gone to before me. The body is a connected chain so working from head to toe (literally) is important to overall health.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hire a different business coach than what I started with. I would meet some chiropractors that would be my mentors in business so, I would not have wasted time and money on things that did not work. I would be pickier on who I hired. Pay the money for a good website.
