Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Lockett
Hi Adrian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out in life with just a dream to play football and make a name in that and that was it. Coming from a small town in Alabama, you just don’t have higher heights of dreaming, at least where I come from we don’t. So I set sail after high school on a scholarship to play football and without the backing of a father figure or my mom staying on my case about school, it was easy for me to give up and take another route in which I did because of bills in my name like my car and insurance, phone bill and no way to pay them so I thought life would be easier if I just quit and went to work so I did and it made life better until it became a stagnant space for me where it felt like I wasn’t going anywhere or doing anything more than just working for someone else to pay my bills so I said I have to do something differently after two years of the same old song, so I joined the military as an Abram’s tank mechanic attached to an infantry unit. These taught me some of the most phenomenal and powerful skills that it would take to compete in any arena in life which would ultimately lead me to my next destination of working a great job after the military that place me a little more ahead in life where I was also able to find the entrepreneur in myself. I was working 12 & 16 hour days until I told myself one day that I was too young to be just throwing my life away in an industrial plant. I asked myself, “what is it really that you want to do?” From there I acted on it and I got myself into the entertainment industry. To date I’ve been acting for 11 years and I love what I do and I haven’t worked a job since 2015. I noticed after years in Dallas that the entertainment industry itself didn’t have a space to thrive, so I wanted to create that and that’s how I came up with creatives Meetup Dallas. It’s an event where I bring the entertainment industry together first then merge the gap with everyday professionals. That means that just because I’m an actor or producer doesn’t mean that I dont need the services of an everyday professional such as a tax expert, credit repair expert, or a plumber or electrician. It’s been such an amazing turnout and I’m happy to say that we are doing this for the amazing city of Dallas!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and I feel like if the road is smooth then maybe you are on the wrong road. I’ve ran into being broke, missing holidays and birthdays, forced to figure it out while sleeping in vehicles and taking baths at truck stops and driving from coast to coast, applying for a gym membership just to take a shower, dealing with people who say they can help take your career to new heights when they can’t, one thing though no matter where I was at, I always was able to make it back home. It’s been a journey but it’s been worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actor, producer, entrepreneur, and business owner. I specialize in fine arts with an education background from the New York Film Academy. I am known for movies like Get Hard, Tyler Perry’s Sista’s, Tyler Perry’s The Oval, Emergency, Twisted Hearts, What Would You Do on ABC. I am most proud of my motivation to go and get it and come back with it. I never quit. What sets me apart from others is that out of no way, I will find a way. I guarantee it.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mom and my family hold me down big time. They deserve the biggest credit. My mom She’s been my ride or die since day one. No matter what, she never quit on us or gave up on us and our life was A 1 hard. Also my guy Glen Gilzene, Calvin Beasley, Sherri Prillerman, Kimmie Francis, Curshion Jones, Dominick Clayton, My aunts back home in Alabama. These people have been there in an enormous shape or form. These guys have held it down and my managers that work so hard behind the scenes to make sure I am seen in the perfect light.
