Check Out Jerry Gomez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Gomez

Hi Jerry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2019 i got in contact with Garth Rogers (drummer) to see if he was willing to jam to some ideas that Ozz (Guitar) and myself had been playing around with. At the time Garth was already in another band playing more funk and blues type of music but he has always leaned towards the heavier genres of music. He decided to meet with us one afternoon and the three of us started making some noise in a local rehearsal studio. Soon after, we decided to take this more seriously and actually start a band amongst ourselves.

The three of us wrote music, figured out our band name, made merchandise, and began posting on social media. As time went on and we became closer as a band, we decided it would be a great idea to introduce another guitarist to Wolvera.

It was a challenge to find a guitar player that meshed well with our musical taste and our dedication to the project. There were a few candidates but none seem to be the right fit. Luckily, one day Garth received a message on Bandmix, a website used to find local artist. Omar Tageddi (Guitarist) responded to a post Garth had posted many years ago, 2 to 3 bands before Wolvera. We met with Omar and talked about the band and our future for the project over some beers in Deep Ellum. We practiced a few songs together and soon after Omar became the final piece of the puzzle.

As time has went on we’ve practiced together, wrote new music, we played many shows across dallas, we’ve worked with local artist to create merch, and we’ve recorded an EP and 2 singles.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Amongst us 4 members in the band, i cant really complain. We get along very well as people and bandmates. All of us have been in projects were band members cant seem to get along or compromise with each other, or are not dedicated to the project. It was a very important thing to us to stay clear of that and to really put in 100% to Wolvera. The day we no longer feel like Wolvera is worth the time, effort, and sacrifice, is the day we call it quits. Every member in the band has a voice and is heard. every member of the band can contribute as much or as little as they feel comfortable with. We split up the work amongst ourselves and we cover each other where and when needed. Sure, we are human and at times we disagree but we compromise and trust one another.

Outside of the band, getting our first few shows was a big obstacle. We were new to the Dallas Metal scene and we had not played live as band. We were fortunate to be invited to play at Mibarrio214. We met many other local artist, and began networking. It wasn’t long until we started getting asked on instagram if we were interested in opening up for other artist. We are very fortunate to have met some great local talent and other metal bands that really support the music and help one another out.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a Metal and out of Oak Cliff. We write music that we love and is influenced by many great artist and bands such as Metallica, Pink Floyd, Gojira, Radiohead and more. We write music we are proud of and always try to push the envelope and make the song a interesting as possible. We love the heavy stuff but we also like songs that have more groove, or are slower pace. We are fans of weird spacey effects and try to implement that to our music.

I am most proud of our EP Towards the deep. It contains 5 songs that we wrote and recorded at Empire Sound Studio in Carrolton TX. It was a very memorable time being in the studio and letting the creative juices flow. Its always a great feeling to hear your song be played back and all the hard work that went in to making it can be felt in the recording.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We learned that things can change at any given moment. It is important to adapt and find solutions. To capitalize on new trends and to go with the flow. Being adaptable is a great skill and as a band we must adapt to what is going on in the world.
