Today we’d like to introduce you to Shefali Patel
Hi Shefali, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My interest for baking started at a young age from watching my Grandmother (Nani) make traditional Indian sweets. This interest was put on hold while I pursued law school and began my career as a practicing attorney. After leaving my career as an attorney, my interest for baking quickly turned into a passion, with the birth of my eldest daughter. I really wanted to create a tradition of baking cakes for all three of my kids birthdays as a memory for them! After many failed attempts, working on my skills, testing flavors and learning new techniques, Caked by Shef was born in 2022. My passion for baking has given me a creative outlet, and the ability to spread joy by creating the most gorgeous desserts that taste just as amazing as they look! Caked by Shef has been an incredible blessing and a dream come true! In 2023, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to compete on Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship! Caked by Shef has also been featured locally on CW33, NBC Texas Today and Good Day Fox 4. Creating custom masterpieces brings me absolute joy!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with anything, when you start as a business I struggled with the art of perfection; spending too much time on orders trying to make them to my perfect standards and not achieving a proper balance with time management. Creating custom desserts is truly my passion and turning it into a business was very difficult in the beginning. I really had to learn some hard truths and learn the business side of things, Overtime, I have found my balance slowly and am able to create from my heart and passion but also have been able to turn Caked by Shef into a business that I am very proud of.

Caked by Shef is bakery that specializes in one of a kind custom cakes and desserts. I am known for my custom, masterful and luxurious cakes and dessert spreads. At Caked by Shef, we make all custom desserts. We sketch from your vision and create beautiful works of art. Beyond cakes we specialize in cakesicles, cupcakes, cake pops, chocolate covered strawberries, macarons and more! I am so incredibly proud of all of our dessert offerings and that we are able to take our clients vision and turn them into reality. We love being apart of the most memorable events in your life. What sets Caked by Shef apart from other bakeries is that we are 100% custom. We design and create our desserts with the client’s vision in mind as well as adding my own Caked by Shef flair! Additionally, all my flavors are tried and true from years of recipe development and I’m so proud to be able to offer a taste of Caked by Shef to so many people!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Although, Caked by Shef did not exist during Covid-19, this time really taught me to slow down and enjoy time with family.
