Today we’d like to introduce you to Payton Meadows
Hi Payton, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was raised right here in the DFW metroplex and have a great appreciation for living here. I am an independent artist and have a music brand called MILEHII [“Mile High”] that I’ve been building since 2020. After going to shows and seeing some amazing artists perform, I had the inspiration to learn for myself. After graduating from college in 2021, I attended ICON Collective Music School (online program) based in Los Angeles. This school taught me a lot of skills and insight on how to function as a professional in the music industry. Since 2024, I have released 3 singles and performed locally here in Dallas. My dream is to perform on bigger stages at festivals and travel the world. I want to experience new places, share music with an audience/fans, and build a fun and respectable community around my brand. Being able to make music as a profession is what I believe my purpose is.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is rarely a smooth road traveled as a small business owner, musician, and/or artist. The learning curve can become very frustrating, pushing the majority of people to quit before they give themselves a chance. My mindset going into building my brand has always been that I cannot quit. I have always kept in mind that it could take 5-10 years to see any return on invested time. Personally, it has taken me 5 years to feel confident in where I am headed. It has been important to be disciplined, invest in myself, and learn through trial and error. There have been many times I have doubted myself along this road, but I remind myself that I must be patient and do the work the best I can, day in and day out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
After graduating college, I worked as a construction manager for a home builder here in the DFW metroplex. I worked there full-time while also attending my online courses for music school. Balancing school and working full-time can get tough, but I knew that it wasn’t forever. At the end of 2024, I moved closer to downtown Dallas and have been working less at a new job. This has given me more time to focus on creating music, sharing my brand, and interacting with the local scene. I enjoyed building beautiful homes for customers and delivering customer satisfaction. I use a lot of my communication and customer service skills in my business today as I navigate through the music industry. Building strong relationships and being transparent are key aspects of how I do business. I am most proud of the decisions I have made to get to where I am today. Of course, I am nowhere close to being where I want, but I am satisfied with how I executed the goals and plans I have set for myself thus far. It is rewarding to set goals and hit them, and it is becoming more and more satisfying to create music and complete work.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite thing about Dallas is the mixture of cultures. People from all around the world live here and there is such a welcoming attitude for one another. I also love the architecture, artwork, and things to do here. It is a very busy city with charm and a classy attitude.
My least favorite thing about Dallas is the traffic. It seems like every day during certain hours, it’s impossible to get anywhere without leaving extra early!
