Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenifer Mendez.

Jenifer Mendez

Hi Jenifer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Jenifer Mendez, owner of Luna’s Photography. Originally from Cuba and now based in Dallas, TX, my journey in photography began in Miami while I was working in architecture. The birth of my daughter Luna sparked my passion for photography, and juggling new motherhood with learning the craft became my greatest inspiration.

As a mom of two, I understand how quickly time passes, and this drives my approach to capturing the beauty of motherhood. With over six years of experience, I offer a portrait experience that goes beyond just photos—it’s about empowering women and preserving life’s most cherished moments.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting in photography wasn’t easy for me. I didn’t have a mentor or anyone in the industry to guide me, so I was entirely self-taught. The competition in Miami was fierce, but through persistence and hard work, I was able to carve out a name for myself.

A year and a half ago, I made the decision to move to Dallas, where I had to essentially start over. Rebuilding my brand and establishing myself in the competitive Dallas photography scene presented its own set of challenges. But I’ve embraced every obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Owning a small business means you’re constantly evolving, and every year brings new lessons. I’m always learning something new whether it’s about photography, business, or myself and that continuous growth has been the most rewarding part of my journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Photography, for me, is pure creativity, it’s about crafting something that communicates a message or evokes a feeling for the viewer. From wardrobe choices to lighting to editing, every detail plays a role in telling a unique story. One of the things that truly sets me apart is my love for experimenting with lighting. I find great joy in pushing boundaries to create timeless images that don’t follow fleeting trends.

I specialize in creating cinematic, emotionally driven portraits. By using color gradients and thoughtful lighting, I transform ordinary colors into something more dynamic, creating an atmosphere that feels both powerful and intimate. I’m most proud of my ability to capture raw emotion and make each image feel like a work of art that can stand the test of time.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on my journey is the value of persistence and adaptability. In this industry, there are always challenges whether it’s learning new techniques, navigating the business side, or adjusting to client needs. What’s helped me most is staying open to change and continually pushing forward, even when things get tough. Embracing both success and failure as opportunities for growth has been key to my development, both as a photographer and a business owner.
