Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Caulcrick.
Hi Esther, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started installing wigs almost three years ago, initially out of personal interest and curiosity about different styles. As I experimented, I realized I had a passion for achieving seamless, natural-looking installs. To improve my skills, I took online classes, watched tutorials, and studied various techniques used by professionals in the industry.
It required dedication and sacrifice, I spent countless hours practicing on myself and others, investing in quality tools, and sometimes redoing installs until I perfected them. I stayed consistent, learning about lace types, adhesives, melting techniques, and styling methods. My family and friends were incredibly supportive, allowing me to practice on them and giving me the confidence to keep improving.
As I got better, word started spreading through referrals. Friends, family, and satisfied clients recommended me to others, helping me build a small business around my skills. The support and trust from those around me pushed me to keep refining my craft and expanding my knowledge. Today, I continue to perfect my techniques, stay updated with industry trends, and take pride in how far I’ve come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning, I struggled with perfecting techniques, especially achieving a seamless melt and making installs look as natural as possible. There were times when I would spend hours on an install, only to feel frustrated because it didn’t turn out the way I envisioned.
Financially, investing in high-quality wigs, lace adhesives, tools, and styling products was a challenge. I had to make sacrifices, sometimes prioritizing my craft over other expenses to ensure I had the right materials to improve. Another major struggle was building confidence and attracting clients. At first, I doubted my skills and felt nervous working on others. It took time, practice, and a lot of trial and error before I became comfortable offering my services. There were also moments when I faced difficult clients or had to deal with last-minute cancellations, which made it tough to stay motivated.
Despite these challenges, I stayed committed. I continued taking online classes, learning from my mistakes, and pushing through setbacks. The support from my family, friends, and referrals helped me stay on track and grow. Every struggle taught me a lesson, and looking back, I’m proud of how much progress I’ve made.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wig installations, with a strong focus on achieving a flawless melt and natural-looking hairlines. Over the past three years, I’ve worked hard to perfect my craft, from customizing lace to blending it seamlessly with different skin tones. I take pride in creating installs that not only look realistic but also last longer and feel comfortable. One of the things I’m most proud of is how much I’ve improved in lace melting. In the beginning, I struggled with making the lace disappear and getting that truly undetectable look. Through dedication, online classes, and countless hours of practice, I’ve mastered techniques that give my clients a seamless finish. Seeing the transformation and the confidence boost it gives people is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and commitment to continuous learning. I don’t just install wigs—I make sure they are styled to perfection, customized to suit each client, and installed in a way that enhances their natural beauty. I also prioritize proper wig care and maintenance, ensuring my clients get the best longevity out of their units.
Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. The struggles, the sacrifices, and the hours of practice have all been worth it. I’ve built a reputation for clean installs and perfect melts, and I’m excited to keep growing, learning, and elevating my skills even further.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself growing my brand by building a strong social media presence and eventually opening my own salon. My goal is to gain thousands of followers, not just for popularity but to establish credibility, attract clients, and create opportunities for partnerships with major hair brands. Social media has become a powerful tool in the beauty industry, and having a large following will help me showcase my work, share tutorials, and connect with potential customers worldwide. By gaining a strong following, I can attract clients globally, increase business opportunities, and eventually establish a salon that represents quality, innovation, and top-tier wig services.
