Meet Nicole Tranca of Victory Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Tranca

Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been someone who enjoys creative endeavors. In college I even had my own fashion brand where I deisgned cool graphics on Adobe photoshop and printed them on t-shirts and sweatshirts. As I begun my post grad journey after graduatin from ohio state in may 2022. The business got put on the back pedal and corporate america took over my life. It didn’t take long for me to crave another creative endevour to fufill my passion for arts. I have always been a fan of music and when with friends was always the designated friend to take aux. I became passionate about house music, watching DJs, attending concerts, and surrounding myself with music at all times. I made an impulsive decision one summer day while sitting at the pool. everyone kept complimenting my music taste, so that night i ordered a basic DJ board. At that point i was just messing around on it and whenever I hosted friends on the weekend I would pull it out to “practice” after a couple months of messing around and watching youtube videos, i came across an ad for DJ academy here in dallas. I signed up almost instantly. The DJ academy soundworks quickly became my second home. i would attend classes twice a week for 4 months. I quickly fell in love with the environment and my new skills i was developing practically overnight. Our graduation took place at wonder bar which was my first ever live set. From there on the rest is history. I began promoting myself on social media, networking with local DJs, and gigs started to fall in my lap. I played at 77 degrees, select start arcade bar, and most recently greenlight. It has sparked a new livliness in me. Controlling the music in the room is such a privelage and watching everyone vibe with you has been extremely fulfilling, There is so much room for personality when it comes to DJing, there so many different tricks effects, and songs you can play and mix.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. There’s been lots of doubts. It is crazy to thing how much progress I have made in only a year. I still have so much to go but in the beginnign as your learning the board it can be wasy to get frustrated and your big dreams get somewhat cloudy. I caught myself many times pulling back from my original dreams. But i have learned no dream is too big. Surround yourself with people who can see that dream with you and encourage you to keep going. I have also made mistakes here and there and all you can do is learn from them. they’re going to happen regardless of what it is – it is a part of being human. But those mistakes are what have continues to build my DJ skills and overall character as well 🙂

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a DJ. My job is essentially to play and mix music for a crowd of people. sounds easier than what it is but there is so many details that go into it. The type of music, knowing what the crowd wants to hear. Mixing genres, matching the beat, knowing when to mix the songs. finding songs, and so much more. I think it takes a certain ear to know when and how to mix that will appeal to a crowd. I remember from a young age that my music teachers in school told my parents that I had that talent that needed to be explored. my parents always disregarded the advice and made sure that instead i excelled in math and science so that I could go the pre med route…… bad news – I never went premed….. But I did get the degree that my parents always wanted of me, and now that that is done, I am back to exploring and chasing my talents and dreams.

Anyways within the DJ community I am known for speacialing in EDM music. I do dabble with all genres but that is my favorite to play. My most proud moment recently was seeing my name/logo on the big screen at Greenlight. I remember when I first moved here that was one of the first nightclubs my friends and I went to. so to be able to play there and see my name on the wall was a very fulfilling moment. I think what sets me the post apart from others is that i am a female DJ. there are not many of us out there and I am realy excited for this new era of female DJ that are coming about.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue to play in dallas. I would love to play at some new venues. I want to eventually open up for some cool bigger artisits. and long term I would love the ability to travel and play in other big cities!!
