Hidden Gems: Meet Robin Vadehra of Precious Gems Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Vadehra

Hi Robin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for photography started back in high school when I took my first photography class. Fast forward to 2023, I officially began my journey with Precious Gems Photography. Before that, I had a completely different career—I have a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and worked in Crime Scene Cleaning, a job that had me on call 24/7.

When I had my daughter, Gemma, in 2021, everything changed. I knew I needed a career that allowed me to be present for her while also fulfilling my creative passion. That’s when photography came back into my life in a big way. I realized just how priceless photos are—growing up, I had very few of my own, and after becoming a mom, I understood the deep importance of preserving memories.

Since launching my business, I have poured my heart into mastering my craft. I’ve taken every course, workshop, and mentorship opportunity I could find to grow as a photographer. My goal is to give families something truly special—timeless, heartfelt images that will be treasured for generations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The transition into my business was definitely a well-researched and thought-out plan. Before officially launching, I spent countless hours learning everything I could about running a photography business—what it takes, how to grow, and how to create a meaningful experience for my clients.

Like any new business, things started off slow. But instead of letting that discourage me, I poured myself into honing my craft. I took courses, practiced endlessly, and pushed myself outside of my comfort zone to build something sustainable.

There have been challenges along the way—learning the ins and outs of marketing, pricing my work confidently, and balancing business with motherhood. But every hurdle has been worth it because I’m creating a business that not only supports my family but also brings so much joy to others by preserving their most cherished moments.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Precious Gems Photography ?
Precious Gems Photography was inspired by my daughter, Gemma. My mission is to create images that families will cherish not just for a lifetime, but for generations to come. Photography is more than just pictures—it’s about preserving memories, emotions, and connections in a way that stands the test of time.

I specialize in all things family—maternity, milestones, cake smashes, toddlers, children, lifestyle sessions, headshots, branding, and most recently, boudoir photography. What truly sets me apart is the deep connection I build with my clients. I’m just as invested in their experience as they are, and I take great pride in bringing their vision to life.

One thing I’m especially known for is my ability to work with children—chaos doesn’t scare me! In fact, I thrive on capturing those real, unscripted moments that showcase the true essence of a family. Some of the most beautiful images come from the in-between moments, the giggles, the mess, the love.

I am incredibly proud of how much I’ve grown in such a short time. Every day, I push myself to learn more—new techniques, new equipment, and new ways to enhance my craft. But above all, I’m proud of the relationships I build with my clients. My goal is always to make them feel comfortable, confident, and truly seen. From the planning process to the final gallery, I put my heart into every step, ensuring each session results in timeless images they’ll treasure forever.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on this journey is that building connections with other local photographers is just as valuable as the relationships I build with my clients. The photography community in DFW is truly incredible, offering endless opportunities for education, collaboration, and friendship.

As a bit of an introvert-extrovert, constantly putting myself out there can be a challenge. But I’ve learned that stepping outside my comfort zone and networking within the community has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. There is so much to gain from supporting and learning from one another, and I’m grateful for the friendships and knowledge I’ve gained along the way.
